Diesel mechanic friend says new fuel needs help lubricating and suggest adding a small amount of oil of some kind to each tank full. What do you think?

Not needed

Your new ULSD has lubricity added, you can add a little if you like, but be advised you will start losing cetane values. Cetane on ULSD is low enough already, running around 45-47. Also some motor oils carry additives that are not healthy for our pumps. . You can add a little fuel additive, such a PS, or Amsoils diesel modifier, cetane boost, or concentrate.

According to the ULSD certs I've beenseeing the minimum cetane levels are actually higher than they were before. All the ones I've seen are over 50.

At least that's the case in California.

Good stuff

You must be gettin the good stuff, all ours is 44-46. Maybe they will get it up some day? :D

You guys...

You don't switch seats Git? Our controllers have to switch seats every week, from BD, to Blue Gold, to Standish, and so on. . Was offered a controller job once, did not like the idea of sitting in front of a screen for 12 hours a day, pressure cooking... :D

We have been screwed and tattooed, we have been demoted to nothing but quality control since ULSD has hit the line, testing, testing, and more testing! The boss told us it would simmer down in a month or so, but just about the time they were going to loosen up a little, some joker in Borger shipped some old high sulfur down a line by mistake... ... ... ... Ugh... ..... We are at 6. 8ppm and holding... . :-laf
