Well, let me begin this post by saying that I had always considered Lucas oil products to be mostly snake oil.
I stumbled across the BITOG test of Lucas oil stabilizer and saw how it made the gear oil foam. BAD NEWS! So I'll never use the Lucas oil additive.
But I *have* had some good luck with two Lucas products, and I'd like to pass them on.
First-- Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant. On both my gasser Nissan (126K) and my CTD (41K) I have noticed much improvement. On the gasser, noticeably more power and better mpg. YEAH BABY! On the CTD, better mpg, and smoother running-- the engine sounds smoother and better tuned. Sounds like the engine is under less stress, if that makes sense. The Lucas UCL is not solvent. What made the results so shocking to me is that I have regularly used a FI/Intake cleaner in the Nissan. None other than my favorite Redline stuff (SL-1). I can only guess that the Redline didn't clean as well, because the Lucas made a difference that the RL never did.
The second product I have had good luck with the their Automatic Transmission Treatment. I first used it on my old '69 Coronet that had a badly slipping 904 transmission. Tightened it noticeably-- enough to make it completely driveable. I've also used it on my Nissan Maxima, and it helps to smooth the trans out and seems to help the clutches last longer. My ATF comes out pretty clean, with VERY little clutch residue. This is with 126K miles on it.
So, while I generally consider most Lucas stuff to be pretty shady (i'll never use their oil stabilizer or high tbn truck oil), i have to say that I was impressed by these two products.
I'd encourage you to consider sampling the UCL in particular. Seems to work well on both gas and diesel.
