rookie question here,, i just stripped the lug and lug nut on the rear axel of my 3500,,,,, thought i might ask everyone here before i try to fix it,,,,,, whats the procedure,,, quick fix??

If its a drum brake rear all you need to do is purchase a new lug and stud from the dealers. There are contradictions on where to buy the lug/stud but, make sure you buy one from the dealers they are the hardened ones and will not stretch or snap under torque. Most aftermarket parts houses have ones that are too soft and not recommended.

Now all you do is remove the tires and the brake drum and knock out the old stud with a hammer. Make sure when you re-install the new one you have it properly seated so it goes in correctly. I used another lug to help seat it then when you re-install the drum and tires and wheels re torque the new stud after about 100 miles.

The rear studs are relatively easy to do the fronts are a P. I. A. I had to change all of mine about a year ago when someone tried to help themselves to my wheels and I drove off with the lugs loose and snapped a whole bunch off.

Let me know how you make out... ... . Andy

andy,, thanks for the info,,, but my rears are disc brakes,,,, so what kind of pain in the a-- are we taking about?? a new rotor is what im thinking,,,, anyways for now i have it tightened all teh way down for now

No you shouldn't have to replace the rotor because of a stripped lug stud. I'm not familiar with the rear disc setup but most likely you will have to remove the disc then knock the bad stud out from from the hub then install the new stud. It will require some more work than the drums because you have to remove the caliper but shouldn't be that difficult. It's also recommended to replace the 2 next to the one that is stripped.
