***Just asking****

I have a friend that installs the Luk clutches as an oem replacement in our trucks. Are they a good clutch... I know that its not a SBC,SACH... and others, but for non- bombed trucks will they hold??? For guys on a tight budget... I mean tight. . are they worth putting in??????

For a complete clutch job. . out the door it is $528. 00. My friend has one put in his 97 3500 and he pulls a 32' 5er, and has done the 230/605 plate and the clutch is hold fine.

RHARVEY:

the stock clutch is a Luk. I had a Luk Pro Gold installed when the stock one went out. 166K When I burned up the 3rd transmission I went with the SB fe. There is differences with both clutchs. The Luk is a smother clutch and the SB is a power grab and go. The Luk will let you slip the plates and The SB does not like that. It will chatter. If you want to have a stock feel and still have pretty good load pull, the Luk is OK. If you are going to put more power to it, 300-450 HP the SB will stand it. That is what I found with both clutches. I runthe SB now and it does well.

My dream clutch would be the SB hands down. But due to the cost of the clutch and the install, I may has to settle for the Luk to get me by until I need the extra holding power of the SB. I may be in need of a pilot bearing in the future and it may come at a time when the Luk is all that my wallet can handle. It would be great to have one of Peters creations inside the bell housing. . we'll see what happens. As far as horse power upgrades. . eventually I would like to see 230-250 or maybe push 300 but thats about it. I have no problems pulling my 25' 5er now so power now is not an issue.

Rick, I have the Luk Pro Gold clutch, it was installed at 29K mi. , now have 163K, and is just fine. I tow from 22K# to 26K# all the time, I work it hard but never abuse it. I have never revved up and droped the clutch. I dyno'd 360hp at MM last May, and am pretty close to 400hp by now. Hope this helps. If, and when I need a clutch it will probably be a SB.

Larry,

Thanks for the information. I too treat my BABY(as my wife calls it) with kid gloves. So I believe with what I have now the 'Gold' would work fine. .

Rick. . how bad is yours now ????

when Tulare comes around I can bring you my original clutch out of ol #1 that I replaced with a Mcleod. . still had some miles left in it. .
