I'm thinking about getting the maap challenger or go rhino sumatra 6000 nerf bars for my truck. Searching through the posts it seems these are fairly easy to install. My question is for those that have either installed. How far out from the side of the truck do these extend? I'm looking at the wheel to wheel bars and want ones that don't stick out very far.

Thanks!

I was considering the MAAP Challengers, but ruled them out due to them being open on the bottom. They will fill up with mud, snow, whatever else is on the road. I also saw a set installed and the brackets were hideous. This is just my opinion, but you would be better off with ICI, Go Rhino, or something else.

I ordered a set of Putco Boss Bars in the wheel to wheel bar. Should be here any day. Found the best deal from truckextras.com . Still very expensive, but the 4" stainless should be just the ticket!:) I will post pics when they arrive and I install them.

I chose the black GoRhino Sumatra 6000's. Installed them in about 20 minutes each side. They are very close to the side of the truck. They don't really stick out much at all. Maybe as far as the door handles. Hope this helps.

Just a heads up. I installed a set of Westin Oval Tube Steps on my regular cab two days ago and I am somewhat disappointed. As it turns out, the rear bracket on both sides hit the frame which in turn produced a very annoying vibration noise. I did eliminate the noise by grinding quite a bit of metal off the two brackets but as far as I'm concerned for $400 it should not have required any modification. Also, I took off so much metal to make it fit I may have actually weakened the step.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. I have the maaps and I dint find the bracket to be any different in appearance to any of the other boards. Mine never filled up with snow but I would imagine you could fill em with mud if you worked at it. This isn't a concern for me. Functionally they are a great board, fit is excellent, the stepping surface is wide with good grip and the durability seems pretty good since mine look brand new and I got em nine months ago. Quite a few people have the SS challengers on here and I haven't seen a compliant yet.
