Background:

Coming back from Bonneville Speed week last August, I was pulling a grade when the temp quickly spiked. The engine made a BAD sound as we rounded the top of the hill. We were able to determine it was hole #4. With no options we drove home 700 miles without any other problems, just lots of blow by and noise.

Last week end I pulled the head off and found #4 piston burned and cylinder in need of a rebore.

Plan is to pull the short block and repair it locally.

Does anyone have any good experience with a machine shop in the SF Bay Area or Santa Cruz area?

Kevin,

Sorry to hear about your problems. Is it still raining out your way? I almost made a trip out there a few weeks back to see a show at the Catalyst and visit friends but I didn't feel like days of rain.

I have a few friends in the SFBA that are into cars & asked for their advice. One lives across the street from a guy that has dealt with area diesel shops for the big rigs, I will forward you his reply when I get it. Here is another buddy's reply, maybe it will give you a start at finding a shop:

I will check. The one that was reall good went out of business. I used a shop that speci;lizes more on heads for changing valve stem selas on my wagon but a shop told me they do all kinds of work. They are Clark's Machine Shop

10270 Imperial Avenue

Cuppertino, CA

Good luck,

Kevin,

There is an exelent shop that we used to use for some of our machine work when i worked at a porting shop. Its in freemont across for the NUMI, plant. THis guy definatly knows his stuff. The shop is Amarals, Ask for Dan, he is the owner. I am not affiliated with the shop, just very pleased with Dan and his work.
