Should We Be Stocking Up On CI-4 Oil?

Hey Everyone

This has been puzzling me for awhile now so I have to ask. EVERY late model Mack truck I see has a plate attached to the bumper the covers the grille. I at first noticed it on a dump truck awhile back and though maybe it was a company thing. Now i have noticed on almost every Mack truck I see. The thing is this thing appears as if it would keep the hood from opening and its bolted on no quick release evident. Been bugging me and wanted to see if anyone know what the heck it was for. It seems to be isolated to Mack brand only trucks around here.

OK found some examples

i have owned a few trucks like that, the grill is fixed to the radiator support [normally]. you can fold the hood forward like normal, however the gill will stay in place. just a neat way to be able to have a grill/push gaurd on a big truck.

granted I haven't looked super close but it appears the grille is part of the hood. Who knows lol its been bugging me so I had to ask. I need to stop buy the dealer and pop the hood on one lol

My '98 CH and '01 CH have them. The grill stays on the radiator when you open the hood. There is a hole there when the hood opens... . Marc
