I was at the point where I needed an air intake for my truck. When I got the truck it had a spectre conical air filter attached to the factory tube. I didn't like this setup because the filter could easily pop off. This has gotten me scared because of dirt being able to get in. I did not want to spend $300 on an intake system. So I made this setup. You can see where there is a piece of 1 1/2" pipe cut in half to hold the filter on the prev. owner put on. I like this rig, painted it IH red. Have less than $20 in materials, excluding the filter naturally. Two street 45's, short turn 90, and a 4"x3" fernco coupling. I have noticed my oil level dropping but am hoping and praying it is due to my oil pan being busted up and leaking from the prev owner, getting that taken care of next week.

that is one thing I am watching. The fernco is pretty thick walled, but I know its probably not rated for high heat applications. Ran it a lot today and running hot, no issues, time will tell.

I would shield that intake from the exhaust manifold, you would be surprised how hot it gets. Hot intake air decreases turbo performance, even if the intercooler can bring it back down to temp.
