Walker 21471 ... where to get?

LubeTec

Hey guys which filter is better to run in the transmission; open or closed type?

I know my 99 takes the enclosed type but it seems like I read a post a long time ago that talked about the open ones being the better choice. I'm going to put my DD pan on Sun and have an open-type but now I'm second guessing myself as to whether I should use it or not. Also, will the closed type even clear the bottom of the DD pan when you're using the extension?

Thanks in advance.

Snow man is correct -I learned from the master, open is the only way to go.

I have an enclosed one if anyone would like it for free.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I got to reading the instructions out on the mag-hytec website and at the very bottom of the webpage they say "We recommend the open filter over the enclosed one".

What year did they start with the closed one anyway? Was it at the 47RH to 47RE swap?

Where can I get one of these open filters. I too am about to install my Mag-Hytec DD pan. What exactly is the big difference between the two?

I got mine at a dealer, think it was $10. You can get the same thing at any of the parts stores or from Geno's. Just ask for a trans filter for 96 truck and they should give you the open one.

The Master (Bill Kondolay) has always advocated the OPEN type filter.

That's cool because the closed type is more than double the co$t of the open style at the dealer.

Remember...

if you have a Mag-Hytec trans. pan (either version) use the thin black (silver writing) composition gasket... not the cork/neoprene gasket... not the rubber gasket.

... another trick from the Master himself! :D
