I just returned from May Madness in Minden, NV, and I bought another neat custom part, the Mag-Hytec transmission pan. This pan is a beautiful piece of engineering and almost looks to good to "hide" underneath the truck. Installation of the pan was very easy. The only part that was a real mess was taking the stock pan off! What a mess and how Dodge or anyone could put a trans pan on without a drain plug is beyond my understanding! I drove the front end up on blocks and that helped with access and also helped in a more complete drain, as I was able to get slightly over 8. 5 quarts to drain out. (Some of it on me. ) Congratulations Roy on a nice product and I can't wait to save up my allowance so I can buy your rear end cover! #ad

I was posting to this topic and all of a sudden I was lifted onto a pallet jack and moved from one forum to another. In physics we learn that two masses cannot occupy the same space and I just proved that one mass cannot occupy two spaces #ad
 
No drain plug ? Your'e kidding... ... . guess you're not. What's the logic in that?

You are correct in the "Mag-Hytec" pan being good high quality! It is just that!

As to getting the oil out of the transmission. Before you begin removing the pan, remove the line at the rear of the transmission, and put a hose on it. Then put the hose in a large container, and start the engine in nuetral and let the pump pump out the oil until air starts to come from the line, then shut it off.

Now you can remove the pan without all the mess, unless you forget to re-install the line!

PJ--- The new Mag-Hytech trans pan will allow me to easily change my own fluid, without making a mess. It has a magnetic drain plug also to help pull metalic contaminates from the fluid. I was also told that the new pan will "stiffen" up the trans itself by being so "Beefy" and strong- it must weigh 5 times as much as the stock piece of sheet metal pan. It also has cooling fins and a pre drilled and tapped hole for a temperature sender. It is a real beauty! AMSOILMAN-- where were you when I needed you!! All of that expensive redline ATF sure looked strange all over my back, sides and face!!! #ad

They are great pans, but not worth what they want for them. I just got a mopar deep aluminium finned oil pan with drain and place for sending unit if desired and it was half the cost of that pan.

I just put my MAG HY-TEC pan on but I just took a drill and drilled a hole in the old pan and let it drain, if I sell my truck but want to keep the nice pan I can add a B+M drain plug kit in the old pan and put it back on. The only fliud I got on me was when I pulled the valve body to install transgo shift kit.

Boatpuller, I thought of that too and knew I could install a drain plug on it if need be but I was afraid the drill bit would go through and hit something inside and ruin it, especially since I had no idea what and how close the valve body was!!

Alpinlite, Was that a trans pan or new oil pan you put on? #ad

Hey Sam.

It was a trany pan from mopar and it is about 120. 00 retail. I work part time at a chrysler dealership and it cost me 87. 00 including filter.

What is the part number for that transmission pan and how much more oil does it hold?

Pull a 26', Tahoe TT (6000 lbs. ) and hardly know it's back there!
 
The Dana 80 with the stock cover holds 3. 4 to 4 quarts of oil. With the Mag-Hytec cover it holds 8 quarts of oil.

The Ford 12-10. 5 and 12-10. 25 holds 3. 5 quarts of oil with the stock cover. With the Mag-Hytec cover it holds 6 quarts of oil.

I son’t think any other diff cover has that much more increase in sump size. This alone will help reduce oil temps. Mag-Hytec says it will reduce temps by about 45 deg. F.

The Mag-Hytec cover has a dipstick that comes in handy. I have not found any other that does.

The Mag-Hytec has two magnets, one in the end of the dipstick and one in the drain plug. The one in the drain plug will hold a #10 Crescent wrench and acts like an open magnet.

All the hardware that comes with the Mag-Hytec is stainless and will look good for years.

Other diff covers like the ORU don’t have what the Mag-Hytec has. In my book quality is everything, why else do we buy these trucks.

Other diff covers only hold 1 quart more oil. You get 4 quarts more capacity of oil with the Mag-Hytec diff cover.
