Did the Mod this weekend... Was a piece of cake! I do have one question..... I had to put in 9. 5 quarts back in to get the level back to where it was before i started the job. Is this the amout of trans fluid that you guys have put back in when you did yours? I have just a little over 30k and the oil smelled good and color looked great. The magnet had like a never-sieze looking paste on it, no bits of metal though. 20% of it pulling the 5er.

It looks GREAT but the Nerf bars hides it a little.

We are getting ready to head for Colorado, South Dakota and Nebraska in two weeks. This will be a big test for the Mag-Hytec Mods. The SPA's will give me a clear picture, I am sure.

Barry, it seems to me when I changed out my ATF the very first time (adding a Mag-Hytec "Deep" trans. pan at the same time), I required about eight quarts... keeping in mind that was with an overnight drain (OE TC).

A couple of months ago I replaced my ATF again, replacing my "Deep" Mag-Hytec trans. pan with their new "Double Deep" model, I believe I added 19 qts. (I drained my DTT 93% TC too).

Barry

Just had the double-deep installed this past weekend when Massdeisel and Moparmuscle installed DTT 91% TC & VB. The total fluid capacity is 20 quarts, they needed to shift through the gears several times and check in neutral until level was up. I believe the TC holds 2 quarts??

Hope this helps

Barry,

You are in the "ball park. " I added 10 qts when I did my swap from reg. Mag-Hytec to the Double deep version. The guys above are referring to refill capacities when the transmission has had the valve body, converter, etc. out of the trans. There is a lot fluid that is retained in the torque converter and the core that does not drain when simply removing the pan. DO NOT add anything remotely close to 20 qts or you'll be swimming in ATF+3.

It took about 16 qts. when I did mine. We put a DTT VB on at the same time. Could not afford the TC yet. I was wondering where you are checking your transmission temps. and what kind of readings you were or are seeing with the set-up you are running. Just curious, as I know that heat is one big killer for Auto trannies and want to stay ahead of mine and any problems with it.

Not Quite!

drag racer, the first paragraph of my post refers to a fluid and filter change in a stock transmission (8 qts. ). As there is no way to drain a stock TC, that is about all you'll get out of it (unless you loosen and or remove the VB). The second paragraph refers to my DTT modified transmission AFTER the initial disassembly/reassembly by DTT (i. e. , an ATF and filter change and TC drain... without removing or loosening the VB). A total disassembly of the transmission would add approximately another 1-2 quarts.

Just thought I would make this a little clearer for Barry.

John,

peace... . I didn't intend to split hairs, but just wanted to let Barry know he was OK, and not get concerned that he was way low on ATF.

Hey Guys Thanks for the info.

John, I did understand your first paragraph. Thanks again!

Drag Racer, I appreciate you making sure that i didnt make a major mistake and dumping more ATF than what i really needed.

Mlockner, I have only drove to work one time (16 miles) since I put the pan on. The only difference I have seen so far is that before the new pan the trans and diff temps would come up to temp at the same rate. Now with the DD trans pan the DD Trans pan stays about 5 degrees behind the diff temp. When we head for the moutains in a couple of weeks, I will have better numbers to compare with the drivetrain lined out on long pulls. I will get back with you when I get back.

Barry, Thanks for your answer. I'll be towing in the mountains next week. We are doing the run to the Sand Dunes and then over Wolf Creek pass here in CO. I,ll post on how things went. This will be my first trip over Wolf Creek so it should be a real test for my truck.
