Ordered the cover for the truck this morning. Forgot to ask the fill capacity of the Dana 80. Thinking it is 7, is this correct?

8 qts + 3 small bottles of friction modifier

Also when you get the old one off, you have to use like JB weld to fill in the stamp letters on the face of the diff. then slap it on! use dipstick hole to fill and it helps if you take down the spare tire first before doing it.

Dana 80

I just put one on my truck. First time I drove it the boss followed me out of the parking lot. He wanted to know if he could get one for his phord.

Anyhow what I wanted to say is: The stamp mark can be covered with RTV. Just put a little on where it is needed, and smooth it out with a putty knife. Worked for meOo.

Mag-Hytac? Have you even got the clutch in yet Okie? Look at this guy, next thing you know the grass will be cut and some DD2's will be on the way! :D

Okie, My Dana 80 with the MagHytec took 10 quarts exactly to bring it to the full mark on the dip stick. The magnet on the end of the dip stick works great for pulling metal out of the oil also...

The clutch install should be the first part of next week. Oh as far as the goodies go, I have a job. That helps when you are trying to buy stuff for the truck. Do you want to help me mow grass this summer?

Okie, smart move to spend some of that hitch money before the better half could develope any plans for it! I adjusted my exhaust tip out about 6 to 7 inches this PM and the truck sounds much better. Thanks again for the hand.

I actually still have the hitch money. I spent some of the money I had ratholed. I will replace it when the money gets here from the two wheels I sold. Glad you like the sound of your truck. It is a pretty one. Hey, I just thought of something, next time I get stuck I can call you when you get the hitch in.

I just put the Mag cover on my 80. The gasket might miss the stamped letters. Mine hit one, so I siliconed it and let it set up a while before putting on the cover - no leaks. I had some deep machine marks in mine. It looked like they surfaced it with a chisel and hammer!. I stuffed a towel around the guts and smoothed it out with a sanding disc on my 4" grinder. 8 qts put it half way between the marks. Craig

I'll give you a pull any time. Say, I saw a Suburban today painted like a Texas State flag. Looked great. Made me think about painting this white monster like that. What do you think? I know my Colorado buddies will think I have lost it! They already think there is something wrong with anyone that likes Texas more than Colorado.

Big John

Okie,

I'd suggest not putting the limited-slip friction modifier in at first; and then add a little bit at a time if you need it to smooth it out. My limited slip will not hook-up with 2 bottles + 8 qt. oil in the diff.

Thanks fro the advice on the modifier. I have a locker from power trax so I don't put in nothing but oil. Thanks again. John, I think the truck is ok the way it is. I have seen some those paint jobs and they do look kinda neat.
