Hyper Puck?

Got the cover, got the spacer kit. Crawled under to have a look see.

APPEARS that the driver side is as far to the rear as possible. The aft most bolt is right under the shock mount at the aft end of the base.

The passenger side will need to be moved aft. There is a factory drilled mounting hole more aft than where the bracket comes factory mounted. The empty hole is just about all the way aft on the bracket.

Can I use that predrilled hole for the Mag-Hytec spacer and then drill only one hole for the forward bolt of the spacer? The forward new drilled hole would be just about a 1/4" forward of the axle centerline. Looks like it might be a challenge getting the bolt around the axle housing and into a hole below and almost on the axle centerline.

Second question.

On the Dana differential casting apparently there is a 5/16" letter stamped in the gasket area. The question is on weep oil at the stamping. How many of you have actually had this problem? It is a potential, but is it prevalent?

I understand the recommended correction (J. B. Weld), just wondering what the probability is. Should I PLAN to have the cover off overnight for the J. B. Weld?

Thanks,

Bob Weis

I used the factory hole and drilled a new one. I used RTV ti fill the stamping just before I put on the cover. I figure If I take the cover off, I'll be putting a new o-ring in anyway.

For some reason I did not need to use the spacer on mine. The cover cleared the bar with no problem. The problem I did have tho is the spare tire clearance. These newer trucks have larger tires and the spare does not clear the cover when the suspension flexes. I had to wrap a nylon strap around the tire and the trailor hitch to hold the tire toward the rear about an inch for it to clear the cover. No problem with the stamping.
