I'm about to install my double deep pan. I have a few questions:

Should I put a sealer on the gasket?

Does the gasket have to be replaced each time I service the transmission?

Is it recomened to pull the cooler line and pump the old transmission fluid out by running the engine? Or - just pull the pan and make a mess?

I want to stick with a ATF type 4+ fluid. Does anyone recomend another brand that is less expensive that the Mopar?

Hope it helps my max. transmission temp!

Thanks,

Chuck

Are you going to use a black neopene gasket? if so no sealer is needed. Don't use a cork gasket :(

I use Amsoil universal atf +4 cooler temps and great protection

I have Bill K's set up so draining is a breeze will the TC drain plug.

I would just loosen the VB and let it sit over night.

The Mag-Hytec papers says that a cork gasket does not work well on an aluminum to aluminum seal. So, I would asume the gasket they provided is not cork.

Bob, I put the pan from DTT. They did not provide a cork gasket with the pan. Did they? I will take a look at it when I get home.

Double deep ???'s

I am curious if the DD pan has any adverse affects for anyone now that cold weather is upon us. I remember reading that it's bad to have the transmission fluid too cool. as in too much air cooling in bitter cold weather.

Just curious

NETim: I asked this question too. The people who sell the pan say it lowers the temp under all conditions. One member said it lowered his temps under normal driving, but, under sever conditions his temps. climbed just as bad as before he added the double deep.

I see 250 degrees when pulling a very steep grade in first or second. I need to do something to get these peak temps down. We will see if it helps.

Clarification

I guess what I'm getting at is that maybe the DD pan may be too much of a good thing? Maybe get the transmission fluid a little too cool in bitter winter temps, say 0 or below?

Perhaps the "regular" Mag-Hytec pan might be a better choice in colder climates?

Merry Christmas to all!

transmission Too Cool

I was wondering about the issue of a too cool transmission as well. With my standard depth pan the transmission temps won't get over 130 (in hot cooler line) while driving down the highway in 30 degree weather. This was without the fan, although it probably makes little difference, at 75 MPH. Is this too cool? If the DD pan cools 15 to 20 degrees more this would put me at 110-115, and I'm sure that has to be too cool

Despite what others have experienced, I have been running a cork gasket with no problems. Personally I prefer the OEM cork gasket with the steel inserts.
