It's about time to service my transmission again, and I think this time I'm going to go with a Mag Hytec. Can anyone tell me the best place to get one? Thanks.

I got mine direct from Mag-Hytec, but you can get one from Geno's. They have a new deep pan which adds 4 more quarts coming out I believe 3/1/01, so you might wait till then.

I got mine thru diesel injection service in Lubbuck Tx. I think the pan will pay for itself over time. I will service my transmission now, before I wouldn't because of the mess. It's amazeing how we rationalize these little upgrades. Gotta figure out why I have to have the EZ edge.

You can buy direct from Mag-Hytec. Roy sent me the proto-type of the new deep pan and even though it is not totally complete, they are waiting for the filter lowering block,I agree with Steve it is worth waiting for.

SteveG,
Thanks for posting that tip about the new MagTech pan. I was just about to order one since my transmission is due for a oil change. Guess I'll wait another month or two for the new pan.

I was looking at the TCI pan as well. Has anybody used one of these? Is there anything that would make the Mag-Hytec pan better, other than the new "super" deep Mag-Hytec?

BTW: I think Geno's has the best price on the Mag-Hytec at $220

I've got the TCI pan on order. I ordered it from Summit for 129 delivered. From the conversation I had with TCI the 128000 is the same capacity as our stock pans and the 128001 is only two quarts larger than stock on our trucks. I don't believe that TCI has a pan that is four quarts larger on our trucks. They told me that the pan is technically for a 727 and our turcks use a pan that is deeper than the 727 so when they advertise the pan as two quarts larger capacity it is for the 727 but if we put it on our trucks it is the same size as stock. We have to use the pan that is four quarts extra on the 727 to get two quarts extra on our trucks. I don't know if it will be any good or not, but if not I'll send it back and get the Mag. I'm always curious and want to see one of these first hand. I should have it about next tuesday or wednesday (2/20 or 2/21). I'll let you guys know what I think of it when it gets here.

The Mag pan comes with a 1/8NPT port for the temperature sender. No you have to add a temperature gauge. check out www.egauges.com

The more fluid available for the transmission the better off you are towing or not.

The benefit of the extra capacity will mean cooler oil temps. This will increase transmission life no matter what your operating conditions are. Obviously the more fluid the cooler it will be. I would think for your moderate towing application 2qts extra would be adequate to help keep things rather cool, but more is better (for cooling that is). I guess to it depends on your towing conditions, air temps, mountainous or not, ect.

Most gauges do not come with a sender.

Also the transmission pan itself is not the most informative place to put the sensor. Most guys will agree that the sensor should go in the "hot" transmission line to the cooler. How you choose to put it there is up to you (new transmission line or compression fitting).

How hard is it to add a temperature sensor to the transmission pan on the new deeper pan? Also, do the guages all come with a sensor? BTW, can you expect any real benefot from the additional capacity, if you're not towing a heavy load? The biggest I tow is under 5000, but I do have a VA Box.

My DiPricol gauge from TST came with a sender also.

..... so did my SPA however, VDO trans. temp. gauges require a separately ordered sender... so do several other gauge lines.
