Magnaflow 5" exhaust not 5"

Well I got a magnaflow 5" exhaust system to go with my towing twins, UPS dropped it off today. So I opened up the box to check things out and everything looked pretty good except the muffler. The muffler steps down to a 4", WTF I thought that I ordered a 5" system. So I call magnaflow tech, and the guy tells me that they only go that big because that is all that is needed? Well why don't you just sell a 4" system then, so when the guys like me running twins and bigger power order a 5 inch system we get a 5" system? So I guess that I will be ordering a Donaldson muffler then, anyone out there have any thoughts on this muffler behind twins?

the magnaflow system is a do it yourself bolt on for the most part. it originaly has a 4" off turbo for about 12" or so then on to 5". now that you have twins with true 5" flange i can see what you are getting at. i am in the same boat, but have been told that 5" straight pipe with twins will be considerably quieter than a single turbo with straight pipe. i think you'll have to experiment a little with and without the muffler and keep us informed. with twins i'd be curious to see if the muffler makes all that much diffence in temps, but am interested in your findings. i am soon to be building/buying a set of twins myself and this is somewhat interesting to know. good luck... ... ... ... ... kyle

Yeah with my II twins, the kit comes with a 5" down pipe, so I won't use the magnaflow down pipe, but what bugs me is that the muffler has a 5" inlet/outlet but only has a 4" core. So what the heck good is a 5" system if you are still reducing down to a 4" in the muffler?



I think that I am going to go with a Donaldson muffler, I hear that they are supposed to be quite! I don't want any drone, which I think the twins will be better anyway!

how do you like the magnaflow duals? i know the whole not really 5" thing but i just wondered if it would be any better than the mbrp duals. i just like the fact that the magnaflw gives you an entire exhaust and the mbrp you only get from the catback for just about the same price?

I just bought a 4" Magnaflow that was necked down to 3. 5 internally... it's still straight through, which I doubt is going to really affect flow numbers...
