Magnetic Drain Plug - why risk it?

Yes, it is the SuperPlug, part# SP-264 (Some members have reported SP-265)

which is loosening. Supposedly SuperPlug is in the process of re-designing a new plug with different threads so they will not back out.

I just took a stock plug and glued a powerfull rare earth magnet onto it. You probably would'nt even need to glue it but it made me feel better. The nice thing about a magnet is you can use it as a oil anallisis tool. It keeps you in touch with what is going on in your engine. Same for all the gear boxes. It will pick up a little iron. Not much maybe but at least you know that little bit is for sure out of your oil and that your engine is wearing normally.

He told me the Superplug for the Cummins was coming loose because when Superplug engineered the threads, they spec'd them to be too tight... . I believe they are in the process of re-engineering the plug for the Cummins. He said no other Superplug for any other application had ever loosened, and was extremely upset this had happened. "



Did he say anything about replacing the bad ones?

Evidently there is not yet another SuperPlug to replace the bad ones with. But if you have one, send it back to Robin, at Geno's for a refund. Personally I am going to wait and see if they come up with a new one fairly soon.
