I have owned an old 1978 International s 1900 for about a year . I have gone over the braking system with new shoes and new front drums/ wheels.

My question centers around air brake dryers . Are they a maintenance item that needs any parts replaced on a routine basis? Are there any other issues on maintenance that you know of on the DT 466 engine or drivetrain that I should know about?

Thanks in advance Daveshoe

Air brake dryers... . there are several different types/brands.

I used to hook up a pull valve on mine, like you probibally have on the air tanks. Pull em every fuel stop.

Other than that, if it has a heater element, you'd want to be sure that's working before winter.

I put an in line alcahol injector on my air system, this way you dont have to do the elements anymore. If memory serves me, they were quite pricey.

Yea take the air drier apart, if it comes apart like a bendix AD-9 drier dose and replace the decesant , it absorbs water. After some time it will be all saturated and will not absorb water. It comes in a cartridge and all you do is swap it out and take old one in for core.

Thanks

Man, you guys are quick:) At least now I won't seem like a complete idiot when I ask the boys at the parts counter what I need. I think it's about time for maintenance manuals on the Dodge and the DT 466.

As far as being a complete idiot on the TDR, I'm afraid that ship has already sailed:rolleyes:

International DT466

Daveshoe, I have 4 International's with DT466 motors in the fleet I maintain. Other than routine fuel/oil filter changes, trouble free, I adjust the valves once a year, flush cooling system every 2 years and change coolant filter. 2 of my units have an Allison 540 trans, fluid change every year. I agree the the other postings regarding air driers, change the dessicant cartridge before the colder weather sets in. Rick.
