I wasn't sure just where to post this since it covers all vehicles, not just mine, but this seemed like a reasonable place. I'm looking for opinions on Schedule A and Schedule B service intervals. According to the manual, I am not a schedule B person, but the manual and everywhere else says most people are Schedule B. Schedule B states it is applicable for frequent short trips where coolant temp does not reach 190*, extensive idling (over 10 mins per hour) at temps less that 32*, driving in dusty conditions, frequent trailer towing, commercial service, off-road or desert service, extensive operation at high engine speeds (> 2900rpm) and loads (> 70% throttle). Not a single one of those apply to me, though I put 10-12K on my truck per year. My main concern is about warranty coverage, but if my driving doesn't match Schedule B, then I would think following Schedule A should not hurt my warranty eligibility. I know a lot of people will ask what does it hurt to follow Schedule B. Well, it hurts my wallet, and can't be good for the environment to change fluids just to change them. Again, I'm looking for opinions and ideas, especially of why service people seem to think everyone should use the severe schedule. I think it is just to get more money out of us. Anyway, I don't see why I shouldn't use Schedule A, and I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Here's my thoughts: I modified the schedule where I chg oil/filters at 5K miles, 30K miles transmission fluid on auto (03) and manual trannys, fuel filters 15K miles and diff fluids 60K miles. Neither sched A or B. About every third oil change I do oil analysis which always thumbs up. Only deviation is I installed Amsoil w/ bypass oil filter and Perma Cool engine oil cooler on my 02 15K miles ago. Getting ready to perform oil analysis to determine how much further I can go before change.

This has worked on everything I ever owned. I log every tank of fuel and keep maint logs. I think that is what you may want to consider.

I think you use whatever lets you sleep at night. Either schedule A or B, as long as you follow one or the other there shouldn't be any issues with warranty.

I was a service advisor at a jeep/subaru dealer for awhile. and i can tell you we sold an LOF every 3k, 5k for syn, we recommended trans flush at 30k, coolent at 30k (depending on green or long life) diffs at every 30k (every 15k for towing etc) and tunes every 30k. and we never had a warrenty issue with DC. as long as the cusotmer changed the fluid when it needed it, everything was peachy
