Terrible Smell Coming out of Vents!

Hi Folks,

Asked a question a couple weeks ago on the blow by bottle, and got great info back. Now my '01 is over a thousand miles and I'm thinking of when to do the first oil change.

I'm sure you all know the factory schedule, do you think it's realistic? Is 7,500 miles a good figure for 1st change/ eternal interval or should I do a change now and keep the 3750 interval? Perhaps something in between based on seriousness of the duty?

So far just light loads, sorta light throttle and no towing, yet.

Thanks in advance,

Kent Kaiser

'01 2500 4X4 auto, that should be enough info

I would do it now to get all the nasties out after assembly and driving it for a thousand miles IMHO. I change mine every 3000 mi. Rotella-T and Fleetgaurd is a great combination.

I would certainly make the first oil and filter change soon. I know some people are going up to 10000 miles between oil changes, but that is too long in my opinion. I always change mine 3000-3500 miles, except for the first one at 1500 miles.

If your driving is constant hwy miles, no city, you could reasonably expect to lengthen these out. IMO.

Do what makes you comfortable. I use Delo and change as close to 3750 as I can. Change fuel filter every 7500 along with air filter. Way sooner than recommended but it makes me feel better. :D

I honestly think its a waste of oil to change your oil anything less then 5k, unless your working the hell out of the engine. I change mine between 6-8k. But thats me, each to his own. ;)

I have to agree with Sky. I change mine every 5000 and also change the fuel filter. I made the first change at 3000.

It all depends on how you drive the truck. It's really a matter of engine hours. The owners manual says 200 engine hours and it's time to change the oil. I usually change out at about 165 hours which equals 7500 miles for my type of driving. If you work the engine hard I would cut that interval in half. I also agree that changing your oil at 1000 miles initially is a good idea.

First Change at 500 than every 7,500

Well I did the first one at 500 miles then I change it every 7,500 miles. I owners manual says every 15,000 miles. No thank you I feel Guilty at 7,500, I can't Imagine driving 15k on the same oil!!

every 5K on the oil (Rottella and Fleetguard) and 10K on the fuel filter. The K&N will get serviced probably every 20K or so - they seem to work better dirty. I cleaned the K&N every 50K on my Chebby 6. 2 without ill effects.

I'm thinking about changing to Delo, that "Oh so fine" rottella smell is getting kinda old. Whats with Delvac??? Is it synthetic?
