My Dad's '01 QC was in a reputable A/C shop for an evaporator replacement about two months ago. I find out from him tonight that the dash cracked practically from one end to the other in several different places in just a matter of days. It looks REALLY bad! It began about a month and a 1/2 after the repair and now it looks like an elephant sat on it! Any ideas what would have caused it? My Pop is pretty peeved about the whole thing. I told him I'd pick you guy's brains and see what you thought. Thanks

same thing is happening to me, but my fix is going to be a dash mat regretfully. a big chunk even came off, oh well i guess i could go all out and stop drill it, but i am just going to get a dash mat.

Maybe they overtightened the dash pad screws at the windshield? I usually replace the 5 plastic inserts in the metal firewall that these screws thread into although they are likely reusuable. In defense of the shop it might have been very brittle and the disburbance albiet how gently stressed it enough to start the cracking. Seems some truck are very prone to cracking on other seem to have no problems.

Around here, I've never seen a 12v with the "blue" interior that didn't have a cracked dash. Not sure if the owner used a window shade etc.

Geno's Garage offers the "replacement" dash top for little dinero, which might be a reasonable alternative now the damage has been done.

Good luck

Andy
