Truck is 2002 with 6 speed.

On going up hills both trucks loose power and can barely make 55 mph,,,need to downshift to 4'th and even third at times,,and power wont come back for a while. on level ground max speed is 55mph

We have changed the lift pump. . then sent to Cummins shop,,they changed turbo boost sensor,,,still no fix,,

Can anyone give me any ideas .

Thanks

Mario

Gauges?

Do you have gauges?

I am just wondering if you have low boost for some reason? I know when I blow a coupler off and have no boost I have no power. Maybe a cracked or leaking coupler?

From the turbo to the intercooler and from the intecooler to the intake.

There should be four couplers (rubber)check them all for leaks or cracks or loose clamps.

sorry these dont have gauges

I get the impression from your posts that you are talking about 2 trucks, if this is the case, do you get fuel for both from a common source?

If its not 2 different trucks with the same problem ignore above.

Fuel filters? Do you change them? What kind of temperature are we talking about? Is it cold enough to gel the fuel?

Just throwing a few things out.

If the truck smokes quite a bit, I would definitely suspect a boost hose, but if not, I'd start with the fuel filter too.

Ah so it is two twucks,

Do you use additive? (anti-gel)

Are you getting fuel from a truck stop, because sometimes you can find #2 in the winter.

Both boost hoses blown off, could be?

Both fuel filters plugged, could be?

not likely to happen to both at the same time though, unless you filled both up at the same place and got some bad fuel.

Since both trucks have the same symtoms I would say it is probably something simple like a fuel problem.

good luck let us know the resolution

wow,,,i really appreciate all this help. .

Latest news,,,

Fliters were changed a few times in the last few days,,,fuel supply was changed as well.

Installed a Boost gauge yesterday,,

Pulling 4000lbs this morning,,up hill,,matted 15 lbs max boost,,,

Did tighten up intercooler hoses.

Going to try the accelarator pedal switch test mentioned above, tonight.

Once again,,tahnks for all the help.

The dealer is ripping their hair out,,but these guys are seriously trying to learn these trucks to be abale to service their customers better,,,,it's rare around here to see a mechanic actively trying to fix a diesel,,,even on his own time.

thanks again

Stock exhaust?

95 to 98 12vs I think had Cat convertors, My 95 had a pluged cat convertor I couldn't get any more than 7 psi of boost and it didn't smoke any more than normal. Do 01's have convertors? Some thing else to check.
