Well, as everyone is probably aware the manufacturer of the Optix line of gauges has closed up shop. This news caught me by surprise and I kind of panicked! #@$%! I have an optix transmission temperature gauge on my a-pillar that has served me well for years. I have always wanted to put in a fuel pressure gauge as well. Didn't worry too much about it as I figured I could pick up the gauge anytime.
Once I found out they were discontinued, I went on the hunt to find Optix gauges. Needless to say they are pretty hard to find new at the dealers. I came across DieselPowerProducts.com (1-866-379-8685) that just got a shipment of new gauges in on Monday (March 21st, 2011). Apparently they purchased some from an ex-employee of the manufacturer.
They have a variety of white and black faced gauges but wiring harnesses and senders are a little harder to find. I was able to purchase an electric, 0-30 psi fuel pressure gauge. Problem is, no extra bits, just the gauge.
My question is if anyone has experience getting one of these gauges to work with a sensor from someone else? I'm not too worried about the harness as I can cobble something together to move the requisite electrons. Does anyone know from whom the optix people sourced thier sensors?
I would hate to have to sell what I have now, just to switch to the Isspro EV2's. One thing I have learned though, buying matching gauges for the truck is like shopping at Costco. If you see something you want, you better buy it now because there's no telling if it will be there the next time you go in.
