making bio ?

I have two qustions about the making of bio diesel,

first can one use any type of cooking oil to make it

and what do you use the by product for or how do you despose of it ?

trying to get things all together before making a big mess

It is best to not use a lard type of oil. Most any cooking oil can be converted.

If you can find a farmers market, they usually have some members who make soap. Gycerine is used to make soap. It will also burn- it has methanol in it-, it can kill weeds better than anything I've seen!! It is biodegradeable so it is ok to use this way.

Be safe and read a lot before you jump in. Methanol mixed with lye is very dangerous.

CJ most oils will work just fine but try not to get hydrogenated or lard oils if possible their gel point is higher. I mix oils from different sources all the time and it seems to work fine. My 100% is only good to about 38 degrees then it starts to gel. Here in Ca that is fine but would be a problem in colder areas.



I reclaim the methanol out of the glycerin then mix the rest with sawdust and put in containers to burn on the camp fire. It burns great but I always put it on a hot fire just to be sure. It does not smoke or give off any fumes that I can tell.



I am running my bio in a 96, 01 and 04 without any troubles so far. I must say it is easier to make in the summer due to the pumping of thick oils and the washing and drying time it takes.

There is a great book out there by Girl Mark Alovert, I'm pretty sure thats her name... but any way thats what I got and it answered just about all of my questions... . I run my B100 when I can, just have a hard time finding a reliable source of oil where I live.
