Has anybody added some kind of extra sound deadening material in the cab. 2001 2500 quad cab 4x4 Diesel. I see behind the back seat there is only tin no insulation at all. One would have thought there should be something on it.

B-Quiet

I ordered a 35 sqft roll and removed the back seat and applied one layer to the rear of the cab. Took most of an afternoon but DID make a noticable improvement.

I still have enough to apply to the doors, but might have to order some more for the front floor/firewall. Make sure you have a roller to apply the stuff... . it really helps.

Doing the rear of the cab has noticeably reduced the "road" noise, but has done very little in reducing the engine noise. I think applying this stuff to the front floorboards and firewall will help with this.

None of this stuff will get rid of all the noise but it does seem help a little.

I have not done the cab sound deadening yet. It's on my project list. ( I did do it to my old Powerstroke & it helped quite a bit) What I have done to my RAM is to get some 2"x50' Header wrap & wrapped from the elbow back (about 4 - 4. 5') This has made a noticable improvement in making things quieter (+ it decreases back pressure)

Brown Bread

Ic,

I used Brown Bread, which was supposed to be about the best according to the B-Quiet web site. Finished the passenger door today and think I have enuff left to do the driver's door.

Cullyguy,

The header wrap sounds like a good idea too. Might have to try that.

I've done the B-Quiet thing AND the exhaust wrap

Last summer I put a layer of Brown Bread topped with a layer of original behind the seat. I then put a single layer of Extreme in the doors. The two helped some. The biggest thing I noticed is it made the stereo (after market CD and door speakers) sound better - really helped the low end.

Last weekend, since I had a bunch of Brown Bread left over (2 rolls for the price of one - but that's another story), I did a double layer from as far up the fire wall as I could reach under the foam padding that is in that area all the way back almost to the back seat. I also did a double layer of 2 inch wide header wrap from the tubo to the muffler (almost 120 feet).

All said and done, it helped a little - sorta mellowed the sound, but you can still hear that mighty 6. I don't think anything short of earplugs will eliminate it completely. That's OK. Hey, its a diesel!

Okay, if I want to do the whole cab... like the back wall, floor and doors... how much do I need? Getting out the tape measure could help, but if others have done the math and did the project and would like to tell me about it, this would be better... .
