Hi & happy holidays to all. Im a long time member, but this is my 1st post. Truck is a 2001 , 6 spd hi performance eng. Stock. 38000 miles. Started the truck, let it idle a bit & started driveing. Engine felt like it stalled, but it caught an runs normally. Noticed I had the check engine light. Any ideas on what happened. How can I shut the dash light off ? If I disconnect the batteries for a hr. will it clear the light ? Hate to take it to the dealer. He will push a button somewhere & charge me $200. 00 dollars. Thanksfor any help or suggestions. Poorboy

if you cycle your key on without starting then back off three times then the forth time leave it in the on position, Any codes should appear in the Trip/odo display, it will say P and then a 4 digit number. Find out what the code is and this could help. This method doesn't always display the most thorough codes. You could also go to your local Autozone or auto store and have them check and clear the code. Usually after several starts and a little while of driving the light will go away on its own, but the code will stay in the system until you have it cleared.

That's right... if it was a temporary condition and not an ongoing problem, the ECM will track # of starts since problem occured and after several (not sure on exact number) of follow-on starts with no problem, light will go off. You can pull codes as described above, though... or with Smarty!

Hi. Thanks for the replys on my problem. I will run it and see if the lightshuts off. Also will pull any codes to seewhat caused it. What is a Smarty? How much money ? Is it truck specific ? Thanks Poorboy

What is Smary? Oh boy! Well, it summary it is a godsend of a device that connects to the OBD-II port in your truck and reprograms the ECM to unlock a lot of extra torque and some extra power that is in the truck.

you can read more at www.madselectronic.com

Also, go to the Product R&D forum and look for a ridiculously long thread (thousands of posts) on it.

One programmer -- any truck -- all software versions built in for all truck models.

Many folks have just Smarty, many folks stack Smarty with other fueling boxes like TST box.

Check it out!
