In Muncie the black truck that turned 12. 4 in the 1/4 said that he was using a Mallory 4140 fuel pump and connecting directly to the existing fuel filter. Why are so many people trying to feed into the lift pump that has already proved to be a problem instead of by passing it?

Who owned that black truck?

That would be Doug (Jetpilot), I think I would bypass the lift pump also when there is a reliable pump available. Alot of members are testing now, and when they post they're GOOD results, I'll convert. Scott (Bigsaint) is one who has tested a few of them.

I run the stock lift pump back by the tank and it has worked good for me. When the R and D is done on the other pumps I am going to replace the stocker with what ever comes out.

The thought that 2 pumps are better than one has been proven here to work, with the Carter pumps. I didn't want 2 pumps to worry about, so I tried a Mallory 4150, located back by the fuel tank, as I replacement. I wouldn't recommend the Mallory as a first choice, I've been through several and other members have had a similair experiences, seems that they just aren't built for continous duty, IMHO. Chris Sutton has had the best known survival rate using a Aeromotive pump/ return regulator and a bung punched into the fuel tanks bottom for a true gravitity feed. The pump I'm using now looks promising, but it's too new to tell.

I will second not recommending the mallory 4150..... I have been through two new mallory pumps (100,000 miles) and added brushes in again, but getting weird pulsing action from the pumps now. I will be trying a different setup once I get some money and other things fixed first (like a new clutch, transmission rebuild, and rear diff rebuilt).....
