Well, I was making one of my three annual return trips from Texas Motor Speedway yesterday (2nd time in this truck) and it was raining pretty bad. I had been going 70 but traffic was starting to bunch up so I slowed down to 60 to play it safe. Now the story gets interesting...
I'm cruising along in the slow lane and come up to an entrance ramp. There is plenty of room between me and the car in front for the car that's entering the highway to merge. I was going to pull over to the left lane but I was blocked in, so I just stayed put. Just as the car merged in front of me, a car swerved in front of it. Both of the cars in front of me felt the correct thing to do was slam on their brakes
(Why this guy cut in front of that car and then hit his brakes I have no idea, I honestly think he was trying to cause a wreck). At this instant I slammed on mine (while my seat cushion was being sucked in to you know where :{ ). I knew (based on past emergency stops pulling this trailer) there was absolutely no way I was going to be able to avoid hitting them, and there was no place (left or right) to swerve.
Then something unbelievable happened, the truck slowed down. Not like my old truck (kinda slowed down), I mean this rig actually downright hunkered down and darn near stopped
! The brakes on these trucks are absolultely awesome... . This truck bone stock stops better than my old one that had performance friction pads all the way around and a pac-brake. This is no exaggeration and I'm talking about pulling the same trailer.
PS. . yes, I will now even allow more space between me and what I'm following (I had about 10sec, I think I'll go up to 12 or 13).
