Manifold heat shield

My truck (07 5. 9) with 40k has faint orange coloring on heat shield and I do tow a 13k 5th wheel camper and don't really baby it. Stock no programmer. A new truck I'm looking at (07 5. 9 70k) the shield is purple black to dark orange witch I believe is from high egts was this motor and egts to hot. Should I stay clear of this truck or is it normal. Thanks.

Sounds to me like it was getting too hot. My stock 2003 heat shield is perfectly silver - no discoloration at all.

Maybe discoloration is normal for 2007 trucks?

Mine too but I've seen first gens that have baked the paint on the hood to a nice golden brown they've been so hot. And they go on to many more miles!
