Hello,

I am considering adding free wheeling hubs to my 06 2500 4x4 and

wanted to get some feedback from anyone that may have installed

manual locking hubs on there dodge.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bret

Try a search for Dynatrac. And some mentioned emsoffroad but I haven't had the money to start looking. Everyone has their priorities and mine are stuck on Smarty.

I recently installed the Dynatrac kit on mine and am very happy with it. Noticably quieter and easier steering while driving. I have been doing alot of towing (snowmobiles)recently,so I can't comment on any fuel mileage increase.

I've been running the Dynatrac hubs for about a year now. Haven't notice any change in mileage, drive or sound from the stock sealed units. That wasn't important to me though as my main reason for switching over was the serviceability feature.

Lock out hub

 Hello Belliott,

It helps if you post your truck configuration, I looked at the lock out hubs a couple months ago and it does not look good for the 3500 dual wheels. It looked too complex and your front wheels would have to stay on the front. From what I understand the lug holes in wheels have to be enlarged or buy ford wheels. There are good reports on the product but it is not designed for dual wheel trucks. If I am wrong I would love to be corrected because I want lock out hub for my 3500. Dynatrack has not made any strong effort toward the dual wheel market and I think there is a big market. Ford and chevy offer lock outs all the way up to the 5500. Comments and corrections are welcome.

Thanks, Dave Mc :)

Thanks Dave

My 3500 does not have dual wheels, so I think I should be ok.

I spoke with the guys at Dynatrac and they told me that the hub sticks out about 5. 5" from the face of the rotor, so I believe it will stick out a little past the side of the stock rim and tire combination I am running.

I am planning on installing the hubs this spring.

Thanks again,

1800 bucks for manual hubs!!! Sorry, but that is insane. Been following this post and was slightly entertaining the idea. Not anymore, especially if some of you have noticed no mileage increase. Thanks for the info though... .

:--) :--) I agree with your comment about $$ with no signifcant change in mileage

If ford had a decent engine that was designed to fit under the hood not engulf it, I would bet lots of us would be Ford owners. All these small hiway rated 4x4s should all have lock out hubs, Dodge is just to cheap sometimes.

Having owned a couple of ferds and having had terrible luck with them, including

a f250 diesel.

I will upgrade my dodge before I spend another $ on a ferd. :)

My neighbor's '03 Ford w/psuedo manual hubs and electronic 4wd engagement failed his first trip to the desert. The techs. @ Ford showed him how to override the electronic setup with a primitive tool called a "wrench" when it fails again. Not "if" but "when". He's ready to jump ship and go Dodge. These things aren't perfect but they are the best coming out of Detroit, err,Saltillo. :)

Try EMS offroad (www.emsoffroad.com). Talked to them a few days ago about doing this to my truck. Much less expensive and Tom (who I talked to) was very helpful. I plan on going with their extreme duty (ED) kit when I get my tax check back. Give em a shout, they can be hard to get in touch with though. Their ED kit retailed for around $1100-1200. If you like them and maybe think about doing it let me know. Maybe if we order together we can get a discount or something. Just threw that last part out there :-laf . We may even try a group buy or something, who knows, maybe they'd go for something like that.
