Do any of you member diesel mechanics know of a throttle cable kit for a 04. 5

600 HO. Here is what I'm looking for..... Oil field pump trucks I used to operate had an "on the dash mounted" throttle control that you could screw out to increase rpm to get oil pressure up for all day idle in winter months(to sleep and keep warm without hurting the engine too badly). to disengage it and return to normal idle we just had to push in the control knob.

These were mostly CAT 3208 road engines in International 5000 cabs.

Im in Northern Pennsylvania with no garage and I want to idle up to warm up the truck in the morning... . beyond just pluging in and scraping the windshield, which I can't reach... . Thanks a lot for your help.

The 600 HO has an electronic throttle (I think) so a cable would do you no good. There is a high idle built in to the 600's that is activated by using the cruise control but your dealer has to enable it. I am a newbie so maybe the experianced members can give you more details...

You could however hook a cable to an additional hole through the top of the throttle pedal lever. When the cable was turned or pushed in the throttle lever would just slide along it and when turned out it would pull back on the top of the pedal rocker. Should work if there is room...

I did this on mine. Worked OK. The problem I have been having is the APPS seems soooo sensitive to the slightest movement. You can slowly adjust the cable and nothing happens, then all of a sudden you get 1300-1500 rpm. I have tried re calibrating the APPS, and it worked really good for a while, but now it is back to the same problem. At first I rigged up a couple brackets to do this using the pedal, but now I have mine connected to the throttle linkage which is mounted on the drivers side of the engine (03 early build). I am still looking for a better solution.

Forgot about that (I got a six shooter), though it only works for auto transmission equipped trucks. Those who choose to row don't get that luxury.

I still don't understand why us gear rowers can't have it. :{ The autos have to be in Park for it to work. The same parameter could be setup with manuals to ensure that the "Park"ing brake engaged. So what gives D/C? I want a high idler that doesn't require my terrible soldering skills to be called into action..... pleeeeeeaaaaaase!!!!!!!!!!

If you have the automatic the best is the compter activation you Dodge dealer can do for $55. 00, at least here in North Central Montana. I post "Fast Idle 6 Speed Transmission" earlier and got losts of good info back. As you will see if you search for my post, there is a site were you can purchase a nice looking unit in Canada: www.dieselservices.com. Its a little pricey and if my mechanic can't come up with a system that will work I will probably go with it. Good luck.

I am wondering if Cummins Insite can be use to enable a high idle mode? When you hook Cummins Insite up to a Semi Truck you can set all types of things, and one of the options is PTO Mode, it allow you to enable it, set the max RPM, set how many rpm it speeds up to when resume/accel is pressed, and how many rpm it speeds up to when set/coast is pressed. Does any one know about hooking these pickups up to Insite?

After doing more research I see that Cummins Insite can't be use with these pickups.

I have a "high tech" fast idle on my '03 to keep the weenie dog cool in the summer when parking for short periods of time. I place a small diameter wood dowel rod between the seat bracket and throttle pedal. I use the power adjust pedal feature to set the desired engine speed. It takes a few seconds to set it and works fine for me.

There's no danger of the dog knocking the dowel rod loose because she is too old and stiff to jump from the rear seat to the front seat and won't even try.

I do endorse the DSG high idler, but it is rather pricey. CChase, just practice some soldering on a bench. Remember: heat the material, not the solder. And buy yourself a good soldering iron and some good rosin-core solder (don't get that lead-free garbage... in my opinion it just doesn't stick like the lead/tin stuff does).

I'd me more than willing to help with this install for anyone in my area! :)
