I am haveing nothing but problems with the vacuum to the locking hubs on my 1998 2500 I would like to change them to manual locking hubs. I can't seem to find any that fit my year truck. That means changing the frount end to fit locking hubs. Any one know of hubs that will fit my year truck? What parts will I have to change to fit manual locking hubs? Any Ideas on what could be wrong with my vacuum. Light goes out hubs unlock. If I let truck set after a while 4 wheel light goes on then after a few min light goes out agean. Thanks

the wheels are always driven, unlass you buy a big dallar hub kit. the CAD actuator just couples the right wheel to the front axle, without it the right free spins and allows easy turns. the CAD works on vacuum. the vacuum is switched on at the transfer case. So check for bad, cracked, loose & open vacuum lines. Also check it the vacuum is comming from the pump on the engine and vacuum is at CAD when transfer is in 4wd. They make rebuilds kits for the pump. The new replacment CAD unit was on ebay for $60 last week. Only 5 items: pump, lines from pump, switch, lines from switch and the Cad unit. Also the fork or arm on the CAD unit get bent or broken.

SSolderitch thank you very much for the information. I've taken it to 4 differn't places and spent upwards of 2000. 00$ for repairs each time it works for a week or so then back to the old problem. I really would like to put manual hubs on but no one seems to make them for this truck. you said some thing about a big dollar hub kit what is it and where can I get it? Thanks again

You can get a hub conversions from:

ems offroad 4x4 fabrication custom lift axle swap all offroad products lift kit

or

Dynatrac

Or you can get a cable operated unit and ditch the CAD system. This will also give you the ability to have low range in 2wd:

4x4 Posi-Lok Positive Axle Engagement System for Dodge 4x4s

The 4x4 posi lock is the cheaper way to go. The EMS and Dynatrac kits get rid of the one piece hubs and give you a stronger and cheaper and servicable bearing and also better mileage from keeping the hubs un-locked. They will both fix you up and get rid of the problem prone stock system... ... just depends on your budget and how long you are keeping the truck. Even with the lock-out hubs you will still have to fix the CAD system to use the 4x4 so I would get the posi-lock to take care of the CAD system and then if you need to replace the wheel bearing for a bit more you can upgrade to the loc-out hubs and bearing conversion kit.
