After driving fords for a few years, the lack of manual lockouts on the dodge bothered me, but not enough to give up the cummins. I have had the truck over four years now and the four wheel drive system has aggrivated me many times. When I pull that stick I want it in four right away. Does anyone else feel like this or am I the only one? Now I finally am out of school where I have enough money and time to do something about it. Has anyone found a conversion, or am I looking at swapping in a Ford axle?

Thanks

I am with you on this one. HTis place will fix you up, and lighten your wallet a fair amount.

I remember reading that they don't have conversions for all years. I have been wondering if one of the local axle shops would be able to fix me up with an axle that had decent ball joints, big brakes, and hubs. I just remembered, I read that gm is putting a dana 70 on their medium duty trucks, looked like it had a right hand driveshaft though.

It seems someone a couple of weeks ago was talking about a kit for this and they were real happy with it, you might find something on a search.

I think I seen a kit in Jegs or Summit, not sure if it was for our trucks though

What does the Center Axle Disconnect consist of? Could it be removed locking the axle full time? I have an '02 and for some reasone DC removed this item from the front axle so it turns constantly. I really don't have a problem with it though because It still runs smooth and I know it'll go into 4wheel drive when I pull the lever. Not sure how much it affects my mileage either. I get about 15-16 mpg running 75-80 on the highway w/4. 10 gears.

This is something I want to do, but I will not pay those prices.

I converted my XJ a few years back for a lot less with a Warn kit.

I put a Posi-Lok on mine last summer. It replaces the vacuum operated motor on the CAD with a cable. Works great & I know the front end is locked.

If you put in a Ford axle make sure it is from a F-350 our 2500 has a Dana 60 a F-250 has a Dana 50. Only the F-350 dually has a Dana 60. This was one of the things I didn't like about Dodge as well but in the 8years that I have owned the truck I have yet to have a problem with it seems to engage quiet fast on my truck. If it only had lockout hubs and a NP 205 it would be perfect.

Dynatrac not available for 01

I talked to dynatrac a few years ago and they did not make a hub kit for the 01 Dodge and did not intend to do so. They did not want to get involved with ABS brake liabilities.
