Manual Shifting Automatic

I just wondered if any of you guys have pulled much with your manual shifting 68RFE automatics? If you manual shift it does it stay in the gear you chose when it reaches maximum rpm's or does it go to the next gear? In other words is it basically the same as a manual transmission?

I notice when i try to start out in 1st it wont up shift... Unlless i am just not giving it long enough

if you put it in 1st it wont go higher if you put it in 2nd it will shift between 1st and 2nd but wont go above 2nd ECT. it will operate normally in all the gears bellow what you select just not go above it. i just got my truck but it is awesome! when you combine the manual control with the tow haul and the jake... well sliced bread is all i can say! i cant tell you enough you need to drive one for your self.

Thanks for the replies; two of my buddies are each thinking of buying one. They would be pulling a lot so I just wondered if you would shift down a gear if it would stay in that gear and help hold back. Cgarling;you answered my question.

Dito what Cgarling said. This is one great truck. Just returned from a 2000 mile trip pulling my 37' fifth wheel. All I can say is AWESOME!!!!
