I have read a lot about how great the new 6 sp. auto is - but what about experience with the 6. 7L and the manual trans. Are they well matched? Is the experience from those that have the manual trans. that they made the right decision, or would you have rather now went with the 6 sp. auto trans?

Jury is still out for me on which way to go - manual or auto?

I'm curious to hear if anyone has purchased a 6. 7 with a 6 speed manual too. All the interest seems to be with the 68RE auto.

I have a 6. 7 will the manual trans. 1200 miles on the truck. Love the engine and trans. Endless power in every gear. Note that I've yet to put a trailor behind or load in the bed yet but suspect that won't matter very much when I compare how this runs empty compared to my 95 cummins.

However one big note. The truck needs another gear on the highway! Even with the 3. 73 gears. It runs at 10% higher rpms in overdrive than the new auto. So, fuel mileage is not going to be as good with the manual. So far on local country road drivin most of the time I'm around 14 mpg. Truck is not near broken in yet but it is very evident that this engine will not get the mileage I got with the the old 95 engine!

I agree completely. I have 4200 on mine, and lifetime average is 14. 3 hand calculated. Most of this has been local with only light loads, some towing.

Would love another gear! I have learned to keep it to 65mph on the highway, though!

I'm still of the old school. I know the 68RE is gaining in popularity, but I'm not yet convinced. I'm staying with the 6 speed manual.

I have an '07 C&C with 6 spd. manual and 3:73 rear. I like it very much. Compared to the '99 C&C(5spd w/4:10)that the new truck replaced I will make the following observations: The 6spd. is harder to get into reverse, it is much stiffer to shift(should loosen up with time) and I beleive it is a good match to the 6. 7 . I do not agree that you need a higher gear as mentioned above because my rpm @ 65mph is 1950. My '05 2500 QC Auto runs about the same rpm @ 65mph. My '07 weighs 9400 lbs. empty(tools & body) and my equipment trailer weighs 2950 lbs. empty. The average load I carry is probably 5000-6000 lbs. Here in my area(upstate NY) there are many times I can't use 6th gear . I find once you get below 1700 rpms, the engine power falls off quickly and under load that means downshifting . If a higher gear ratio put the rpm @ 1600-1700 , I'd think the truck wouldn't be much fun to drive. This is just my opinion.

I agree with you jmorse, the RPM sweet spot is 2000 RPM and when climbing it is 2300 RPM in 5th gear loaded. The 6. 7 is awesome with the manuel and I don't regret getting it. I drove the Aison before my purchase and was not impressed, but then I,m a manuel fan when its behind a Diesel. I think that all the negetive threads on the G56 where out of fear on change with the Ram. I kept the 04. 5 NV5600 and think both are good trany's. The NV5600 is a stiff transmission and is stronger, but the G56 smoother and easy to shift, the only thing I don't like about the G56 is the gear ratio between 5th and 6th. When accelerating getting on a freeway and you are maxing the RPM's and you shift from 5th to 6th, you feel like your clutch slipped because the ratio's are so close, your RPM's are at 2500 in 6th. I would still buy the manuel after driving mine 6500 miles on the new C&C, however don't forget the 6. 7 C&C is 305 HP and could be different in the other version.

on my old 04. 5 fuel mileage dropped after 2000rpms. it seems to be the same with this 6. 7. i am not to keen on running 2200rpms to do 70 but what are you going to do. i like the truck too much to part with it. my only real complaint is that it feels like if any gear where to give me trouble in the future it feels like it will 3rd. shifting out of that gear, it will kind of pop out, sometimes. maybe thats my style of driving.

I bought an 07 6. 7 litre with the 6 speed manual and love great power in every gear. It has 1000 miles on it and im getting 18. 6 miles to the gallon in the city. No regrets would never buy an auto.

Where is your signature so we can see what truck you purchased and do you have pics? If your CTD was manufactered after jan 1 07 and is manuel what is the HP? I believe the man trans version has different HP and torque numbers. Can you post what they are?

Thanks Steve...
