I have had my fill of ceramic clutches and am ready to do something about it. My 99 has been through a 4500 and now runs a 5600 with a dual disk SBC ceramic. I drive the truck daily and have come to the end of my road with the current configuration.

I want to install a 47RE built for the power and run it with a manual valve body. I drive in snow and sand pretty regularly and want the control of a manual but the ease of a torque converter.

The truck made 500/1100 on its last dyno run. 4. 30 gears and 37 inch tires.

Controlling the TC lock up, is my main concern but any input welcome. I have very little experience with an automatic.

Anybody done this? Any vendors here have any ideas or up for a challenge?

I don't know very much about auto trannies even though I have one on my '02. I would think however that you would be looking for a 47rh if you don't want electronic controls. I would suggest calling the big transmission builders and find out what they suggest for you. I have a personal preference for Dave Goerend myself as I have his transmission in the '02 and have been more than happy with it. He really does stand behind his product. Good luck on your conversion.

Joe, thanks for the link.

I have spoken with Ron at Suncoast. He has done what I am after and had a full quote with all the info I needed to me in a few minutes. It is not a difficult procedure, you really just need to find an auto shifter with 4 speeds. Suncoast provides the rest.
