question 1: what if any issues are there with the use of biodeisel (B20) in

my cummins turbo diesel, good or bad, associated with the

engine, exhaust, or any other aspect?



q2: will there be any problems having to switch back and forth from biodiesel

to standard diesel due to availability or access?



q3: is anyone familiar with the processing unit built by

BIODIESELSOLUTIONS,Inc. ? (make your own fuel at home for 70 cents

per gallon, and 40 gallons in 24 hours)

if so have you been successful? have there been any problems using

this fuel in your cummins?



q4: here in north and central texas we have BIOWILLY stations selling

B20 grade biodiesel. does anyone know if more of these stations will

be opening up on the I-35 corridor? or about availability at other stations?

Hello Mr Zambrano,



My first thought was "what truck does he have?" I encourage you to put that info into your signature line to help others answer your questions more accurately.



What you're driving matters somewhat, as components have changed over the years and the newer trucks are officially 'ok'd for higher percentages of BioD.



I *think*, though you can probably find it with a search in this forum, that 5% is the number Dodge Oks for 3-gen. It's going up with the newer trucks.



I haven't heard of many complaints, the 1st gen trucks evidently could find the rubber fuel lines degrading with higher percentages. I don't think that is an issue any more.



All of them can find that bioD is capable of breaking loose stuff that accumulates with #2, resulting in a greater potential for clogged filters in the older/higher mileage units until the system is cleaned out.



My rig is a 3rd gen (~11k mi now) dropped into a '93 GMC Suburban that has 250k+ miles on it. I've run up to nearly 100% (just leftovers of #2), and more typically 25-50% and not had any problems at all. The fuel filter is coming up on 10k miles since the conversion and is still doing fine.



Switching back and forth (I get the fuel in two different places) has given me no grief at all.



Exhaust smells better (bioD) and the engine runs quieter - that's a nice side benefit.



Mileage drops between 0. 5 and 1 mpg running mostly bioD.



I wouldn't anticipate any problems. I suspect the caution from Dodge is more emissions/liability related, but that's just my guess.

B100 ( soybean oil )here for over a year with zero problems. I believe Cummins decided to allow up to B20, not sure. Don't see why they don't promote it due to the higher lubrication which is almost twice that of #2. Switching back and forth is no biggie, just like stated above the smell and noise is different. My truck is quieter (less pinging), smoother, smells better out of the exhaust and feels like it has more pep which is due to the higher cetane rating in bio. My mileage actualy increased but no more than about . 5mpg. I did talk to a guy with a 3rd gen that has been running B100 since he bought it and he said that the truck has been running flawlessly, no problems at all. One thing you will need to do when you switch to bio is check your fuel filter, bio will clean your fuel system.



Navydood another member here as well as myself are getting our bio in Ft Worth at DFWbiodiesel. com. They are located off of I35W and Long Ave. They have B20 and B100 at the pump.
 
I have about about B50 in the tank now and the engine LOVES it. A marked reduction in noise and truck seems to have better throttle response. Engine burns CLEAN. I love the smell. I am tracking mileage to see if it takes a big hit compared to B20. So far it looks the same.
 
I've probably run over 1000 gal of B-100 in my 04 with no problems at all. Still on the OEM filter. Haven't noticed a change in noise for HP. Fuel mileage has not changed.
