Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) How do you drive?

Well, it all started when I changed the coolant in my truck this weekend. While I was at it I cleaned the battery terminals, drained the pill bottle, and thought that I would give the IAT a look see. Thought that it might have some soot buildup from the ebrake and could use a cleaning. This is where the brain decided to go on vacation.

In my haste I disconected the MAP sensor (after disconnecting the batteries) and grabbed my 11/16" socket. Hey, it doesn't fit anymore? Man, that thing is huge! So I get an 1 1/8"socket which at first apperars to be working, but in reality is only turning the MAP sensor housing and not the entire unit. I don't have anything larger, and no one else in the neighborhood does either, so I'm frustrated.

It's getting late and time for dinner so I put the pre filter fuel pressure sensor hose back in, resecure the sending unit, reconnect sending unit wires and batteries. When I start the truck I get a CE light. Things that make me go Hmmmm? Oh Yea! didn't plug the IATin ( which was really the MAP, remember?) . Reconnected sensor, disconnected batteries to clear code P0237, waited 30 mins and reconnected. Still have CE light and P0237 along with P1693.

It was then that I realized that I had been fooling with MAP and not IAT. Now the truck runs but will only make about 3-4 pound of boost. Must be limp mode, right? Must have wrecked the sensor when I was turning the housing and not the entire unit. Hey, anyone seem my brain? It must be here somewhere.

I still am trying to locate a 1 1/4" standard deep socket to replace the MAP sensor. A thick walled socket or impact socket will not work here. Will probably have to buy one.

The morals of this story? Know what you are doing, and MAKE SURE THE SOCKET FITS THE SENSOR. Otherwiswe you will turn the plastic body and destroy what may be a good unit. OK, give me the dumb move of the week award. I deserve it.

Just a follow up to this. When I replaced the Map sensor I disconnected the batteries while doing so. After everything was back together I still had the CE light and codes. Truck ran normally now so I decided to drive it and see if the code would just "go away". Well yesterday the CE light did not come on.

I still have no idea why this came up while changing coolant. But at this point everything is back to normal with only spending $75 for the Map sensor and a helping hand from thekidfan. Thank you Jeff!
