I am looking for some OE map sensor part #'s. I bought a used oil sensor sending unit on e-bay and suspect it is actually a map sensor. (BTW -doesn't work in either slot) The big # is 10703, which matches both OE oil press, and the map sensors.

The little #'s are

e-Bay unit:

B0798 - right above the 10703

3348749 - small #'s on back side

the plastic color is more yellow, and matches my OE oil press.

None of these #'s match either of my '01 sensors. The auction was no guarantees, but if I can prove the semsor sold as an oil sens and prove it is actually a map sensor, I will have grounds for refund.

The e-bay seller said it was from a '99 and should work for an '01 H. O.

Was I taken for $70?

Thanks in advance guys!

Well first off a Map from a 99 is NOT going to work on a 2001 truck. The oil and Map sensors do look similar but will not interchange between 99 and 01 so I would ask for a refund right away since the seller said it should work on your 01. The 01 Map has a straight plug and 2000 down has a triangular plug. Good luck!

I just picked up a brand new 2001 map sensor (pressure sensor on the package) for $76 from the Cummins dealer - the number on the box is 4921505. The old sensor has a 3417030 (? - difficult to read) molded in it as well as the 10703.

I'm sure someone has posted pics if you do a search and have enough time to wade through the posts. Good luck.

I guess I need to clarify..... I do not need any new parts. What I was looking for was an oil pressure sending unit. (Ended up buying a new one from cummins and problem is solved thanks to threads on this site. ) What I bought was supposed to be an oil pressure sending unit from e-bay. It didn't work in place of mine, thats why I bought the new one. My concern is that I think e-bay sent me a MAP sensor accidentally. The e-bay sensor fits in both my oil pressure slot, and the map slot. (Found this out accidentally by pulling map sensor first thinking it was the oil. ) The two units look identical except for #'s and the color of the molded plastic, and the plugs fit both perfectly.

CSnyder: Should an oil or map from a '99 fit in my '01? This one does. (Fit in the hole but not work maybe?) I know my chances for refund are slim, but the more info I have, the better I can argue my case. Also, if there is a chance the e-bay part I bought actually works, I could just resell it.

Thanks again.

OK, I have an update to myself. I did several searches and the e-bay part# I bought is 3348749. Apparently it is an oil pressure sender..... for what years I am not quite certain. Does anyone have any info on OEM oil press. senders? I know the '99 part will fit in an '01 hole, but SHOULD it give readings?

What I DO KNOW is that it fits, but does not work in my '01.

First bit of advice, be ready to take a loss if you order parts on E-bay, I have all but quit buying from E-bay because of the scams and crooks on there.

That said, when I picked up my MAP (Cummins called it a turbo boost sensor) they wanted my engine number (for that matter, any other part I have ordered as well), not the year, apparently there where changes made during the year, and this can apply to other sensors as well.

As far as not working on your application, it may be so far out of spec it won't read correctly, or possibly it is bad. It works by resistance, voltage is fed through the circuit and as the oil pressure moves the plunger it alters the reading. If the input voltage or polarity is different, it won't work.

I am with you on the e-bay deal. I might still buy somethings on there, but nothing technical and nothing that I would be too upset about if it turns out a rip-off.
