MAP sensor :: What do the wires mean?

I'm looking for someone with experience or a good service manual. I need to know what the wires from the Manifold Air Pressure sensor on the 3rd Gen common-rail trucks mean. I know that they are dual function (Pressure/Temperature), but thats about it.

Also, if the information is available, what does the output look like. Voltage vs. pressure, etc.

I know this seams like I haven't done any homework on this but I have looked everywhere without success. Plus this site is such a good source of knowledge it be a shame not to use it.

The MAP sensor is an absolute pressure sensor. It has a ground, a 5 volt reference and an output. The output is 1 volt per atmosphere (14. 7 psi). At sea level and no boost, the output is 1 volt. When your boost gauge reads 14. 7 psi (29. 4 psi absolute) the output will be 2 volts.

Thank you for your reply.

Does anyone else have a pinout of the sensor. Which wires are the power, ground, pressure signal and temperature signal.

I assume that the temperature sensor is a thermister. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, what is the part number?

This is out of a DR Service manual. Still looking for the wiring diagram for the sensor.

SENSOR-TEMPERATURE/PRESSURE-MAP DESCRIPTION

The combination, dual function Intake Manifold Air Temperature Sensor/MAP Sensor is installed into the top of the intake manifold.

OPERATION

The combination, dual function Intake Manifold Air Temperature Sensor/MAP Sensor is installed into the top of the intake manifold with the sensor element extending into the air stream.

The IAT portion of the sensor provides an input voltage to the Engine Control Module (ECM) indicating intake manifold air temperature.

The MAP portion of the sensor provides an input voltage to the ECM indicating turbocharger boost pressure.

All of the sensor outputs that I have seen are 5 volt outputs like stated above.

Wiring diagram for MAP sensor.

It is only three wire connector to the MAP sensor. Not sure how the dual mode signals are interpreted on one output. But that is all there is.

Thanks for all of the replies again.

Dan, for some reason your link does not work. Is it a wiring diagram?

Also, does anyone know about the signal for the air temperature sensor? Is it voltage or resistance signal?
