GLTDR Event - Macomb Community College - March 23, 2002

OK gang I know I'm a little late on this one, but my earlier plans fell through.

March 16th at the Factory Outlet Stores in Smithfield, NC. It is just off of I-95, I think it is exit number 95.

We will meet at the Cracker Barrel parking lot. Plan on lunch at 1:30. I need to get an idea of how many so I can call ahead.

I thought this would be a nice day for the wives, to be able to check out all the stores. For once they will have something to do and maybe we won't bore them this way.

I know Scott and I are planning on camping Fri. and Sat. nights (location not yet determined) so if anyone else is interested in camping let me know.

Look forward to seeing everyone again.

Wes

Wes, Mo and I will be there. If anyone is interested in checking their fuel pump pressure, I'll bring the 'Briar Hopper' setup (this fits on the AC type fittings that the 2001 has). It will be interesting to see what David has to say about the injector upgrade - it's gettin to a point where my truck is the only one not having over 330HP!

Wes If the good lord willing and the creek don't rise, Marge and I will be there. Glad to see the MATDR getting strated. the old man Charles

Wes:

As I said in my e-mail, I have to teach in the morning

but will try to get up there later in the day. I might

not make lunch though.

Stan:

Did you get my new e-mail address?? You are

going to have to get BOMBING on that white

6-speed of yours!

I'm in Slipping clutch and all.

Good evening

I'm in for 3 as of this week. My better half may have to work but she don't know yet.

Glad to hear the Great news that we are Official with the Mid Altantic TDR. Now we need a awsome sticker to go with it. I know we have some artists out there, lets see what you got. Maybe some of you "Cullage"kids have some good Ideas. See I can't even spell college. :p :D Just kidding hope I didn't insult anyone.

You are a much better person if you could handle more schooling then the required 12 years.

Hope to see everyone there.

See Ya

Chris

Count me in for 4, but don't anyone mention the injectors in front of the Mrs. That's something she doesn't know or need to know about.

John:

Sorry. You sent me your new email address and I was busy at the time and meant to update, but I forgot. I'm going to do it right now before I forget again.

Look forward to see everyone next Saturday.

David

So far looks like 10 trucks.

The weather man says it will be a gorgeous North Carolina day.

See you all Sat. I'll be there at about 12:00-12:30 in case anyone else wants to show up early to shoot the bull.

Wes

Bring it on

Wes

We are in for three. My wife doesn't have to work.

About our logo, If there are a few good ideas out there we can go from there. Rough drawings and sketchs are welcome there are a couple of places that can make them into a sticker for us.

My wife has one of those sewing machines that can sew a pattern onto a shirt from a disk. Leigh here, that would be an embrodiery machine:D

See Ya

Chris

Sure wish I could make it down for this ... but I promised Lisa this would be her weekend ... . and then gues what happens!!! :D My 370's finally got here Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

Now I have an even bigger dilema ..... wonder what's gonna happen???:-{}

Life is good!!!!! Hope ya'll have fun!!!!

Keith

Keith:

If you get the 370's in go ahead and come on down and

we'll go "line em up on I-95!" I figure I owe you that

since you "blew my doors off" while I was driving your

truck!! LOL!!

Wish I was Closer

I live in Columbia, SC. Wish I could join you all. I am not sure how far Smithfield is, probably a good days drive.

Let me know. How often do you guys meet and how many of your are there? Have you guys fixed the KDP's? I fixed mine last week.

thanks

Well, it is about time somebody posts something about

our "get together" yesterday in Smithfield.

As always, I had a great time! It was great to see

everyone again. Wes, my thanks to you and your

wife for getting all this together and most of all for

getting us into "Cracker Barrel" so we could eat!

I counted ten (10) trucks about the time I got there

(although there could have been more). After we

ate lunch, the girls went shopping inside the mall

stores and we talked about "trucks" and other

subjects. Barry, thanks for coming to our event!

I hope you and Dennis enjoyed your ride in my

truck!

Daniel H. decided to "stay the night" with me

down here in Holly Ridge instead of having to

drive all the way back to Tenn. on (3) hours

sleep!! Daniel, it was good to see you again

and I hope you enjoyed yourself! I think you

have my son convinced that "stacks" are the

way to go!!

BTW, did anyone get any pictures????

What a great day!

As if I wasn’t already impressed with the power of the stock Cummins engine in my own truck, I was offered a ride in the truck owned by John P. at a lunch get together on Saturday. This was my first ride in a modified CTD, and I would never have believed that a 4x4 pick-up could perform this way, let alone, a 4x4 diesel pick-up. I now know why some folks refer to John’s truck as the “RED ROCKET”.

First off, this truck is immaculate inside, outside, and under the hood. I mean, I washed my truck that morning before I left the house for the 2½-hour drive and even though he said he had come straight from work, I still think he must have spent the night out in that parking lot cleaning on that thing. :-laf Hehehe

Anyway, back to the ride part of the story. Actually, John was fixing to give a ride to Barry when some of the other guys (who have ridden with or evidently followed behind John) suggested that I go too. Barry gave up his co-plot seat (Thanks, :D ) to move to the back seat and we were off. As we made our way from the parking lot and local roads to the interstate, John was happy to answer my newbie-to-the-performance-world questions and I was thinking to myself, “this truck don’t feel or sound much different from mine. The exhaust and turbo was more pronounced, but,,,,,”. All of that changed as soon as we hit the interstate. Cruising at about 70-75mph, John then cut the “RED ROCKET” loose. In the blink of an eye, with the turbo singing, and a plume of black smoke out the tailpipe, a glance at the speedometer showed 110mph and it isn’t even straining!! The feeling is almost indescribable in that it is smooth as you get pressed back into the seat, but you also start waiting for the whole rear-end assembly to come clawing it’s way out from under the truck and leave you behind. I think I can honestly say I know what real Torque feels like now. Making the flip at an exit to return back to the rest of the group, John makes the comment on how he’s running at about 100 less HP now, compared to what he had, but he’s working on getting that back shortly (like 400 HP isn’t enough?).

Then came the fun part! As we roll up behind a newer Trans-Am in the hammer lane, who decides he’s going to leave this pick-up truck in the dust, rather than get out of the way. I watched the back end of the TA squat as John commented on its driver’s intent and then that turbo started singing. John had to let up a couple of times to keep from running over the TA while its drivers’ eyes seemed to glance in his mirror in disbelief. At over 120mph, the TA still couldn’t get away! All he could see was a mirror full of RAM! I can only imagine how damaged the TA driver’s ego was as John backed off in order to get slowed down for our exit. Back on the local roads, the CTD went right back to its mild mannered self. I commented on the fact that the Dolly Parton sized goose bumps on my arms was not coming from the air conditioner, because my armpits were soaked! I guess the ear to ear wide grin on my face was a dead give away to the rest of the guys as I got out of the truck, but then again, I guess most of the guys who have ever taken a ride in the “RED ROCKET” have had that same grin. :D :D :D

BTW, you will no longer see me referring to the Cummins 12 valve as being “Under-valved”. If you can get a diesel to run like this, I don’t care how many valves it’s got. :D Glad to hear Daniel didn't have to drive back home last night. Thank you John P.

Thanks to Wes (1BIG44) and everyone else involved, for setting up a great get-together. I really enjoyed myself and I think everybody else did too. It was great for the ladies to have something to do too, even though I don't know how much money they spent. (And I'm probably better off not knowing)

:D The guys said it looked like I had been bitten by the Bombing Bug ... ... ..... They might be right!

It was good to see everyone again, and meet the new folks. I had a good time shooting the bull with you guys and gals.

I hope no one got stuck with a great big shopping bill. It was nice for the wives to have something to do this time.

What do you guys want to do next time??

Wes

Dennis -

That could very well have been the bomb bug that Wes saw crawling up your leg. You won't feel it bite for a while. It burrows deep into your wallet first and gnaws away at any currency you have in there, then it lays eggs and in a few months thousands of little baby bomb bugs crawling in your ears and eating away at your thought process. Next thing you know, all your liquid assets are gone, then you start in on your retirement accounts, then... You get the picture. You're flat busted broke, but you've got one bad *** ride.

Barry -

It was good to meet you. You could end up with the same affliction as Dennis. You guys are in luck though. There's a cure. Sell your truck NOW! Buy a Ford. They don't need any modifications. They're perfect right off the lot. Not really, that was my weak attempt at sarcasim.

Wes -

I thought the zoo was a good idea. If we can come up with a date, I'm sure the wife and kids would be up for it.

I had a good time. See ya'll next time,

David

Great Time

Hello all

My family and I too had a good time.

Thanks Wes.

Dennis

While you where on your ride did John do his famous words at about 100mph. Something like "guys watch this and puts a smoke cloud on who ever he is running". I agree the "RED ROCKET" is well named.

I am looking forward to our next get togather.

See Ya

Chris

Dennis:

I just got back on the site and saw your post. WOW!!!

I'm glad you and Barry enjoyed the "ride!"

You will have to ask Daniel about the "ride" he took

on my sons "full race prepped" Duncan Racing

Yamaha Banshee earlier today!!
