Confusion over warranty issue

Vendor question

anybody have one of these hidden away somewhere? need to start collecting parts for my rebuild that will be happening sometime in the not so distant future. thanks

dave

Straight from Piers... .

Use CPL # 2208, that's is for the 370HP marine engine..... although you'll have a tough time ordering parts with just a CPL #, Cummins like a serial number as well, use 45432843

Hey Dave, what did you find w/ the turbos and blow by? Is she tired? Nosy people want to know! By the way, tach still works!

haven't found anything out for sure yet. talking to paul at htt, he said the probable cause was oil return restriction. most likely from blowby. been too busy to check it though. the other issue that has me worried is that once i put my remote mount filter on, i lost 10 psi of oil pressure. which wouldn't be that bad of a thing if it wasn't already borderline too low. now it's at 25 psi over 1500 rpms and somewhere below 20 at idle. i'm not so good at diagnosing the problem, just fixin it. and i know that she'd be happy with some new parts (over 400,000 miles).

Dave you probly know this, min oil press at idle -10psi, min oil press are rated speed/load -30psi. What oil pressure did you see while going down the road say 65mph? If > 30psi, I wouldn't be too concerned. I see 25psi HOT idle, 50ish hot cruise speed. Idle press can be affected from what your idle speed is too. Sorry for the already known info:p.

well, when i first start 'er up i get about about 35. once up to temp though i get nothing over 25, no matter what rpm. and with my *new* tach i know that i'm idling at about 850. have you ever heard of a high pressure oil pump for our engines, bill? i've heard of em for v8's. just wondering if there is a way i can postpone the inevitable.

dave

As far as hp oil pump, might call one of the reputable engine builders, such as Scheids maybe with their high horse race or pulling engines, they might use something of the like. What were your oil pressure readings before the install of the remote mount? Possible bad oil press sender, gauge, mechanical/electric? Where is it plumbed? Block near ps pump or oil filter mount? Ok, I just reread, ... what would account for oil press loss with the addition of remote mount?

thanks for the tip, bill. no luck though. the guy i talked to never heard of anything like that. as far as why the pressure dropped, i'm pretty stumped.

good news. pulled the remote mount off and massaged the intake around the stock location and once she's warmed up i've got 50 psi cruising and over 25 psi at idle. the only thing i can think of is that the ports and passages on the thing are too small? i dunno, but it's going to stay the way it is now. but now i've got a pretty serious stumble free revving it. like building boost up to smoke em tires, and the thing seems like it's going to die. watcha think bill? time to rebuild the pump? it's on the list anyway, but the money tree isn't quite ready to give fruit yet.

What is your fuel pressure when doing this? I'm wondering if our piston LP isn't gonna support more than 4xxhp... ?? A pump rebuild wouldn't hurt. I'm definately not the expert, I'd run it by the pastor or Mr. Block, see what they think.

Edit: BTW I'm glad to see that your 400k mile Cummins isn't going to need a rebuild. VE maybe but not the bottom end.
