can you take a 5. 9 marine engin and swao it in to a 1st gen i have a buddy who wants to do this any thing we need to look out for might have trouble with or will this even work tia cahammer
Sure, it'll work... but you will have to make some changes to the marine engine. Don't worry about the issue of finding a marine engine that runs opposite of normal. With twin-engine diesel powered boats, one of the props does counter rotate... but the reversal is done in the sterndrive/gearbox. (Some gas engines actually do run opposite of normal rotation... )
The water cooled marine exhaust manifold (and turbine housing) won't work...
Marine camshafts are best suited for steady-state RPM use... they're no good for street driving where you'll be doing a lot of acceleration.
The injection pump is probably not going to work well on the street, either.
Marine (and a lot of off-highway applications... ) pumps are governed to maintain a constant engine RPM all day long and you will get a bit of 'unintended acceleration' if you use them on the street... There have been a couple of posts here on the TDR related to the different governor styles... it's good reading.
