I need help. I am building a 12 valve and had the head O-ringed by Rip. I called Cummins to find a marine head gasket and they say the marine number superceides to an automotive number. Any one have any ideas? I don't want to have to take the head off again.

Jon,

I can't be 100% sure but about 3 years ago when I changed my head gasket I was told by our local Cummins dealer that because they had been having problems with the stock gasket they upgraded everything to Marine specs.

It also seems like I remember being told the same thing through the TDR forum, but again that was three years ago & a lot of water under the bridge.

Either way I have had no issues since & I run about 45 lbs/boost.

Maybe someone else will chime in here that know's for sure, but if not I hope it helps.

according to mid-states cummins in indiana there are only 3 gaskets available for the B series. stock . 010 and the . 020 the . 020 is usually called the marine gasket because it was used stock in those applications, or so I have been told.

Thanks for the info. I installed the crank this weekend and can't wait to get it done. I'd post a pic of the Suburban but am to incompetent with the pc to do it.
