I am doing a 24 valve P-pump build up. What would be the best piston to use? A marine piston or a common rail piston? I am looking for 600 horses or more. And it still needs to start ok on its own when its cold out.

Does anyone know the marine piston part number?

Joe D used marine pistons in his last motor and said he preferred the 215 bowl over the Marines.

im running mahle pistons from piers, they have the marine style bowl. i think they have stock compression ratio. and the price is every reasonably. i think i paid 300 for the set. im running 500hp to mine and the guy at piers is running around 800hp

I would call here Home and talk to Piers or Harry and see what they recommend.

Talked to Harry the other day about this very subject on a motor re-build I'm about to do.

FYI: Don't get Piers and PDR mixed up they are not the same place.

He's building a P-pump'd ISB... not a 12-valve.

I'd use CR pistons - quite a few folks have had good luck with them... in both ISBs and *gasp* 12-valves.

The reason to use the 215 bowl in a 12 valve build is compression. you can't get any valve to piston clearance and over about 15. 7 compression with the 370 marine bowl in the 12 valve, and that is low enough for a trail of white smoke at every cold start. I found the 215 bowl with the thick 3283339 head gasket at 16. 4 compression was better on the street. Now in a 24 valve engine, you need a centered bowl, so neither of the above psitons (215, 370) is appropriate.
