I apologize in advance for the number of questions, but I have been wanting to install marker lights on the cab & tail gate like the 3500's.

Can anyone tell me how the tailgate center marker lights are connected to the wiring harness on a 3500?

Is it a plug-in or crimp connector?

How & where does the wiring run through the tailgate to the connection point?

How hard is the cab marker light kit from Dodge to install?

Are the cab lights sealed so that water doesn't leak into the cab?

Will these additions burn out my headlight switch? I have the factory fog lights.

To get the correct cab marker lights for an 02, you need to order the marker lamp kit labeled for the 3rd gen, as it is actually the late second gen style lamp. The template is wrong for the 2nd gen, but when you remove the headliner, you can see where the holes are supposed to go. I removed the headlight switch and used a test light to find the right wire to tap into.

As far as the tailgate ID bar, the only part I got from the dealer is the black plastic piece that holds the lights. I priced out the whole assembly, and was quoted at over 70 dollars. I made my own wiring harness, and tapped into the wires for the license plate lamps. For the bulbs and lenses, I went to the local heavy duty truck repair shop (where I happend to work) and bought three sealed LED lights that fit perfectly.

i have a '99 and where do i find the cab light kit? dodge? is the template still wrong? or do i drop the headliner and go from the inside? any pics of the rear marker lights u used?

The 99 model year is a little fuzzy, I have seen some 99's with the older more tirangular style lights that come in the 2nd Gen kit, and I have seen some with the newer long and flat style lights, that come in the 3rd Gen kit.

I am gunna go buy a digi cam tomorrow, so I will get pics up as soon as I can.

i bought my cab lights from JC Whittney. i think it costed around 30 bucks with shipping. it came specific "dodge OEM lights" and used the template that was underneath the headliner. hope that helps ya.

So if I understand this correctly, there is already a template marked on the inside of the roof & all I have to do is pull down the head liner.

How do I remove the head liner?

Silver Ram,

When I put the light kit on my '02 I used the template to mark the roof for drilling (hardest part is getting the nerve to drill the first hole!!). I now know that all of the holes are basically marked on the inside -- the inner piece of metal in my roof was prepunched for cab lights. Just drop the headliner and you will see the panel. I got the 2nd Gen triangular style lights in a kit from DC when I bought my truck. The kit is all factory style including a new plug to connect the lights to your junction block behind the dash.

As far as the headliner goes, if I remember correctly you have to remove the overhead console, sun visors, rear dome light, coat hook, A pillar covers and loosen the rear pillar covers. Sounds harder than it is. I felt it was easier to completely remove the head liner than just lowering it. Also, put a cover (a sheet) over the seat to catch any metal pieces when you drill the holes.

Hope this helps

Good luck with the install

Joe
