I'm upgrading to a dually, and am putting marker lights on roof, fenders, and tailgate. Can someone please tell me where I can get some good teardrop lights, complete in a kit which includes the template for drilling the holes in the roof? If I can't get the teardrops, I'll settle for the OEM type, but I also need the template.

Any help is appreciated!

Soler,

Federal law requires viehicles the with of a dually to be equiped with cargo lights and rear fender lights and tailgate lights. They are optional on the 2500 but standard on the 3500. You won't see a dually on the road without them.

You are right, and I mentioned that I will be putting lights all around (read the WHOLE post). I know where I'll get the fender and tailgate lights. I just need help with the roof markers.

You can get the roof kit complete with template from your dealer for $69. 00 I think , and its not to tough to installe. Kevin :p

If you drop the front of your head liner you will find the holes used when the factoy installs clearance lights in your roof bracing.

Remove the overhead console and the sun visors the a-pillar trim and the trim around your quad cab door latch. this will alow you to drop the head liner enough to install. I used a socket that fit in the hole and use a center punch thru the center of that to mark the spot to drill. Once you've marked the spot if you look the small indend from the center punch will be visable from the outside now you can drill from the outside. drill big enough to get the wire or conector(depends on lights) with the light in place you can use the windshield molding for final alignment drill the 2 mounting holes and attach. Useing a little silicone on the screws and on the wire hole never seems to hurt. To wire hook all the lights to one wire run it down the a-pillar remove the front of the dash(it pops off be gentle) to expose the 3 screws that hold the light switch into the dash remove, run wire to the switch find the wire for marker lights (usally light brown or tan) splice into that wire with the wire you ran. alittle electrical tape on the wires you ran across the roof on the inside will help hold them in place untill the head liner is back in place.

Guess I misunderstood your post. I thought you were trading for a dually. I guess your converting your 2500 to a dually. OOPS. What these guys said.

My template and cab lights cost 58. 00 plus tax. Worst part was watching 243 with a drill in his hand putting a holes in the roof of the new truck. I think it was 15 total.

Where to purchase?

Okie-Go

Where did you get your lights and templates? I called my dealer, and they sell the lights for $16ea, but no template. I know I can drop the headliner, but want the template, too (just to be sure).

I know it's difficult to drill holes in your roof. The last one I did was for a customer and was a 01 with 3-400 miles. (a little nerve racking) But just take your time find the center holes(the ones for the wires) like I said before once these are drilled you can set the lights in place and make sure they are in the location before drilling the 2 mounting holes(use the windsheild as a guide) and yes there will be 15 holes to drill before your done. If you drop the headliner you'll see what I'm talking about. I'm not even sure they make a template for doing this.

$79, Down the drain?

I ordered the lights, #82205120. They are not the ones I wanted. I wanted the identical ones as on the new trucks. I hope my parts guy will take them back, because they are not going on my truck.

If I can't get ones like on the new trucks, then I guess I'll have to find a special parts catalog somewhere. I really like what's on the newer Freights and KW's. I'm really picky, but then it's my baby!!

I'll keep y'all posted on what I find.

I have found factory copy clearance lights(ford superduty/chevy) once installed you can't tell the diffrence, in the past if your intrested I can look into those. I would tell the brand but I can't rember. They run in the same price range your talking and they are a kit not just the lights. Let me know and I will see what I can do.

I looked at the lights off of the previous body style GM trucks. I like them. I also found the lights for the new DC trucks, and I'm going to get them. They are $17ea, but no kit. I wasn't going to run them into the headlight switch, but will make my own switch panel for the clearance lights, fog and driving lights, and other doo-dads I'm going to add (including an electric motor to raise and lower my CB antennae to fit in my garage).

I like the lights on the late model GM trucks, but each light is $72 . Yes, $72. That is $72ea for the two small lights, and $72 for the big center piece. Can I get some vasoline, please?! I don't like them THAT much.

J@NWC:

There is a difference in the lights. The kit I got for my truck is for 1999 and previous. They look like what is on the Fords. I have done a lot of looking the last few days, and there is a difference, even when installed.
