I've been reading about all these additives fellow members are using, what about Marvel Mystery oil? It seems like that was the thing to use in all engines, I ain't that old! Then there's Kroil, that stuff will clean anything up. HAPPY CLATTERING

I've used ATF, new engine oil, Marvel Mystery oil, and now Stanadyne Performance Formula additive and they all work and lubricate. It's really up to how much you want to spend to get the job done.

I'm assuming you mean adding this to the fuel?
I've used Howes, Power service "diesel kleen" and their standard white bottle, Red line, and a few others. I havent seen any mileage inc. like advertised. There may be an improvement, just not measurable.
If you want to provide lubracation(sp?), I'd go with a good brand 2 stroke oil. At least this is made to burn.
They say you could use used engine oil. I wouldnt. If you feel you must, strain it through a cheese cloth first. Probibally have to keep a good eye on your fuel filter too.
If you decide on new engine oil, I would stick with the lightest weight possible, at least for the winter. 5w-30 or lighter.
Just my opinion.

I'll have to agree with you, Patriot on the used engine oil bit. As a product of diesel combustion, used engine oil is on the acidic side and that's not good for the innards of the injection pump and the nozzles. I too have not seen the substantial gain in mileage from the additives. I do it simply because today's fuel is becoming more of a solvent than an oil and I want to preserve the lubricity of the fuel to prolong the expensive injection componentry.

I've used Power Service (gray and white bottles) Amsoil (with a splash of cetane boost) and Redline. Nothing seems to help mileage in the truck, but the additives do make it a little more quiet. If nothing else, they keep things clean.

All the products have helped milage in the VW. I got the best effect from a few ounces of Poser Service (gray bottle) and some cetane boost. The car ran more quiet than some gassers, had plenty of zip and got great mileage.

I was making sure my trucks and tractors were ready for the approaching cold front a few days ago. Added enough Stanadine PF for 35 gallons to my 3500's half full tank, began topping it off with fuel while idling. While waiting for it to fill I cleaned some things out of the back, and walked 100 ft to my shop. While at the shop the engine noise all of a sudden disappeared,I thought the engine had died. Went back to the truck and it was still idling but much quieter. I've been using Stanadine for several years and this is the first time I've noticed a difference. I'll continue using it,mainly for antigelling, only costs about 5 cents to treat a gallon of fuel. Oils will help with lubing, but will not clean injectors or help with gelling. If you figure it out diesel additives are much cheaper than oils per treated gallon.

You would never catch my dumping used oil into my tank, Patriot & B59 just touched it, the geniouses are yacking about acid rain and we have folks wanting to dump used (acidic) motor oil into their precious Cummins... Lyle would roll over!!

Just a thing to share with you guys on the great Bosch pumps, I work for a major utility company with steam turbines providing most of the power. These rotating elements (blades shafts) weigh up to 450 tons and run on babbit bearings they are "floated" prior to rotation by... you guessed it Bosch injection pumps! A piece of trivia for ya.
