Well, Massachussets has a new emissions inspection program which is tough and according to their website all diesel vehicles will have to under go a computerized emissions analysis test.
So I take my truck to the local shop--they tell me they can't do diesel, don't have the new equipment yet. In fact, four places tell me this.
I go to work instead, and look up the RMV website and they list off places that ARE diesel inspection stations. I then go to one of those during lunch--they tell me, Nope, we don't do diesel. Three more places again tell me the same.
Finally one places tells me of a shop they know does them. I go there and they're doing big rigs. I watch them hook up the sensor as they rev the engines to full stop and idle at least five times. Now, my truck has never seemed smokey to me (then again I've only put 500 miles on it) so what do I know!!
My turn comes, and the guy just checks out my safety equipment and stuff. Then types in a bunch on info on the truck into the computer (with some 'memorized' numbers which he had wrong--such as my truck is rated for 230hp--heh, it is NOW after my TST plate. )
Then he prints my stickers and thats it. I ask about the emissions test and he's says they only do that for diesel trucks over 10k in weight. I wasn't gonna argue, but the RMV clearly said ALL diesel vehicles. I think its time for some sooty bombs since I know what inspection station doesn't care.
