Gentelmen,I have heard people talk of how much thicker and stronger a connecting rod of our cummins is compared to a psd flower smoke or a dura maxi pad,I would love to get my hands on a picture to show to a couple of co workers, these dudes think ther trucks are equivelent to our cummins, nobody wants to hook up but me,they are afraid they may break something #ad
I keep tellin them my 22 to 23 mpg plus IM gonna get 500 000 is the best part of buying the cummins I told them that I was jellious that my truck did not come with hand warmers on the tailgate, nor was it an option from DC,If anybody can get there hands on a picture it would be great #ad

Dont offer any pics, hold your ground with a pull off. That sounds like the only thing they will believe. Make everyone throw $100 in the pot who wants to go bumper to bumper. If they are so sure they have more power, but might break something, I'm sure $300-$400 would help with any reapirs they might have. In fact I would bring a chain into work next week with their names on it!

I agree, but make it a strap and not a chain, if a strap breaks it just snaps really loud. A chain will come back and knock the hell out of one or both of the trucks. Bring a trailer so you can get them home #ad

send an email to blue chip , they have both a cummins rod and a psd rod , not sure if they have a pic , but may be able to snap one for you and send it via email . the difference in rods is like comparing a hemi rod to one from a briggs and stratton...

I sure would like a picture of that too.

Be sure your strap attach-point is at his height or higher than his. Some Flords sit high and can get an unfair advantage. #ad

BTW they need the advantage but don't deserve it #ad

Tom Matson Dodge in Auburn, WA. used to have a light truck connecting rod display in their showroom (maybe they still do). A Cummins B connecting rod was proudly displayed next to a 7. 3 PSD con. rod which in turn was next to a Chev. IDI 6. 5 con. rod. #ad
#ad
What a difference! As I remember, the two V8 Diesel con. rods TOGETHER weighed JUST (and I mean JUST) over what a (single) Cummins B rod weighed. Bearing surface on the other two rods compared to the Cummins... what a joke! #ad
#ad
ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON!

..... the difference, the PSD and the Chev. IDI 6. 5 are light-heavyweight Diesel engines. The Cummins B on the other hand is a medium-heavyweight Diesel engine. Enough said!

Yeah,Tom Matson Dodge still has the display, but it's in their parts department now. The difference IS massive.
Sorry,but I don't own a digital camera or I'd post a picture.

MikeR and John, how long is the Cummins rod in comparison to the "other" diesel's rods?

Another thing to consider in engine longevity is connecting rod length. The longer it is, the less piston-to-wall loading there is (rod angle), resulting in less wear. Another reason I6 engines have the advantage.

Vaughn

vaughn, you are exactly right,I need to tell you I worked with some big cooper an clark motors alot , these things had 19 and 20 inch pistons in em, we had v12 versions tha te piston an rod together were about 6 feet tall, any way the ol in lin 6 models were most dependable,we hardly ever worked on them, but the v modele were always on a yearly overhaul,we sometimes had to replace linners(4200 pounds)because they were axcessive wear on the lower side as that is where all the weight is,the I-6 were overhauled every 4 to 5 years pending on perfofmance this is the biggest reason I chose the I-6 cummins #ad

Vaughn, the overall length of the Cummins B connecting rod is at least 1. 5x the length of either of the two other V8 Diesel rods (which are pretty close in size/length to one another). That bad boy is massive!!!!

I can email you a picture of a 3500 series CAT rod if I can find one. That will fake em out good and shut them up. Its about as long as my elbow to the tip of my hand. Better yet we can send them a 3600 series rod! I takes a crane to lift it!
